Never, ever seen before that a microchip is placed in the belly area.
That's not normal.

Al vets and people approved to chip, place it between the shoulderblades. (at least in the netherlands they do)
I would pick another vet to chip your pup, our request he puts it between the shoulderblades.

Usually they scan all along the back to find the chip, i would also make sure the chip is recognized by the vet and Your local shelters not all of them are the same. a chip will only be worth it if they can read it, if they cant its useless.

Both homeagain and avid- the two most popular chips in the US have directions with them that say to put it between the shoulders. I would be very suspact of a vet who didnt follow the directions. Some chips can move over time (older chips and some kinds of avid chips tend to move more because of the shape of the chip) but really you want them on the back, most will never move.

I agree.

We went to a grand opening of a vet by our house. They were doing all sorts of demos so for fun I asked them to scan each of the girls. She did not ask me where it was placed. She immediately placed the circular wand right at their shoulder blade area.

My girls have Home Again because that is what my vet uses. I have no idea what brand the vet who scanned them for me uses.
