So, my bathroom has ants everywhere! I don't know where they came from. Usually I would just buy those plastic things that have food inside to attract the ants and they take it back to the ant bed and the ants all die. I hope y'all know what I'm talking about. Does anyone know if these are safe for dogs? And if not do y'all know what I can do to get rid of the ants and still keep Chloe safe?

I would be afraid that the chi would get into the traps and chew on them.

My grandma used to clean the area that ants were attracted to with vinegar to get rid of ants. I am not sure why it works but it always did. I have also had people tell me to use really soapy water to clean the area but I have never tried it.

Good luck!

Wipe down your countertops, cupboards and any other places where you've spotted ants with a 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Repeat throughout the day to maintain the efficacy.

Why This Works: Two reasons, really: ants hate the smell of vinegar, and it removes the scent trails that they use to get around.

I hope this helps

I detest ants in the house! :foxes15:
This recipe has never failed me regardless of the
variety of ant. You can put something over the bait
jar to keep the pets away (mesh strainer or basket
weighted down or taped down.)

How To Make a Boric-Acid Ant Bait

1 . Mix 3 cups of water with l cup
of sugar and 4 teaspoons of boric
acid or borax. If sugary solutions don't
attract your ants, try high-protein
foods such as canned cat food.
(Note: The trick is to use enough
boric acid to eliminate the ant
colony but not so much that the
first ants to try the mixture are
killed before they pass it on to
other members. If
many ants die in or around the
bait station, the bait is too strong;
if they keep coming in
undiminished numbers for more
than a week, it is too weak.)

2. Pour some of the bait into each of
three or more small screw-top jars. (I use Baby Food jars)
3. Loosely pack cotton wool to
half the depth of the container,
then saturate it with the bait
solution.
4. Screw the lids on tightly, sealing
them with adhesive tape. (seal to keep pets out!)
5. Pierce the center of the lid with
two or three small holes.
Caution: Label the containers
with a skull and crossbones. Baited
solution must be kept away from
youngsters and pets.

You will see an increase of ants for a day or two as they carry the
bait home to their nest. When there are no more ants, throw away
the bait jar. Good luck :)

You can also put the ant poison in a plastic container with some small holes near the bottom. The ants can get in the box, but your baby can't.

as bait we use 1 cup borax mixed with 1 cup of powdered sugar. we use it dry...

First if you can find out where they are coming from, you should seal the "entry point" off--you can use silicone caulking or if it is big whole Great Stuff ...geet rid of anything that would attract them...seal up things any sort of food shoukd be in sealed container or in a fridge. I actually had the ant bait issue--chewed up by the dog---frantic phone call to poisin control happen. First I have to say that athough the ant baits work grat at killing off ants--they do not contain the ammount of toxin needed to poison the chihuahua. The vet at poison control said the more harmful thing would be the sharp pieces of plastic they bite when chewing the thing up--as this can cause internal bleeding. That said I put the baits behind large appliances where Rico could not get into, under the refidgerator, etc, you an also secure them with some duct tape or stcky putty to where you ant them--out of the chi reach zone...this was about 4 years ago here and I have had no more ants--touch wood !!

I'm on board with the vinegar also! I had a problem a few years ago. Vinegar is safe and it works!! Although, check out the good old fashioned raw vinegar, the one with the "mother" in it. You have to shake it before you use it. It is good for just about "anything!"

I put these little bait stations behind, or under stuff. Under the stove, under the refrig, etc. I have them behind the heavy scale in the bathroom. We did have the dog get one that was inadvertly swept out from under the refrig, but they just had one bite, and left it in the middle of the living room. I watched the dogs like a hawk, but nobody got sick. Thank goodness. Sue

This makes me feel a lot better about the little ant stations. I put one of them up high and I'm keeping my bathroom door closed while I have it out. Thanks everyone for the awesome advice!
