We have just been told that our 19 week old puppy Dolly will probably have to have her front right leg amputated, due to a growth deformaty in the bone! Do any of you have experience on how she might manage with just 3 legs?

ive never seen a chihuahua with three legs but i have seen other breeds of dogs with 3.... and they have been fine!! its incredible how easily they get along!! there was one dog i saw runnin around like CRAZZZZY and i didnt realize he only had 3 legs till he sat down beside me(they kinda sit funny :tongue5: ) but anyways,i would imagine a chihuahua would adapt the same :)

I am so sorry to hear that. Chihuahuas are very resilient though. I'm sure your chi will eventually adapt to having three legs. I've seen dogs with only the back two legs, and this dog believe it or not hopped around just fine.

Also, have you considered getting a second opinion? I say this only because this is a life altering decision for your chihuahua. Just a thought...

Ive seen a couple of chihuahuas with just two legs not three, though other 3 legged dogs seem to adapt quite well.

dogs adapt VERY easily to having one less leg (especailly when so young) i wouldnt worry it wont effect her in any way, a friend had a greyhoud who had to have a front leg amputated, that dog ran faster than any of her other greys!

hello,

my auny has a 3 legged chi. she was born with a broken leg and to fix it and is not guarantee. Anywho, she walks and runs perfectly -Julie is 1 1/2 yr now and has not had problem with her leg. The only thing my aunt is always careful when she's on the sofa or bed-she puts lots of pillows in case she wants to jump down.
