Baby Chia's and little children... arggg

I am a first responder with our local volunteer fire department. Sunday morning we had a medical emergency that I responded to. After we got the gentleman onto a stretcher and I was headed out the door I noticed three children sitting on the couch and the youngest one (probably 2 or 3) had a very small chihuahua puppy. She was holding it on its back and twisting it's little legs backwards. I said "OMG a chihuahua puppy! Can I hold it?" I picked him up and held him and he just whinned and whimpered. I had the EMT's medical bag so I had to put the puppy down sooner then I wanted to, but when I tried to give him back to the little girl he backed up into my arm pit. He very obviously didn't want to go back to her and I can't say I blame him. I had to set the medical bag down and get down on my knees to set him on the couch. I looked at the little girl and I told her to be very gentle with the tiny puppy that he could be hurt very easily because he's so little. I thought about that poor little fella all day Sunday, I wanted so badly to go back and get him. My husband asked me why I didn't stick him in my pocket, if I thought I could have gotten away with it I would have. Why do parents let little children play unsupervised with a tiny tiny chi baby??

It's lack of respect for the dog. You wouldnt give your kids your antique ming dynasty plate to play with, in case it was damaged, but their quite happy to give them a dog?! :angry4:
If they respected the dog for what it is, they would have enough brain cells to work out ITS NOT A TOY!

I'm stopping, too angry. Poor little chi
aw the poor thing! i don't even let adults hold my chiwi! i taught kylie from before i got chiwi that she will be delicate and she is not to pick her up. lately she has been allowed to put chiwi on her back when she bites and she does it just like me, ever so gently.
~I know I'll always be watching when I let a little kid hold my baby. When I was little I had a friend who abused her chi without her parents knowing. She told me to come in her room and try it because it was fun but it was so awful! I told her parents and her parents took the dog away from her and gave it to the mother's sister, which is my mom's good friend. Today I see that dog and it makes me proud knowing I helped it. He's had stunted growth but has a lot of heart. I'll never forget that girl who did that to her pup and I'm so glad he's with another woman now. Little kids around 2 or 3 don't really know better, but I was eight when this happened!! Hope that poor chi is alright
That's really horrible because unfortunately the only way it will probably stop is when the poor baby gets hurt ( I mean the Chi ) or it gets old enough to bite the little girl in which case the chi will probably get in trouble. What is wrong with people that they don't watch children with animals
Poor little dog. I wonder if it was for sale or if it was theirs.
That's awful. Who would leave thier baby chi all alone with tiny kids? That's just asking for a disaster.
That just makes me so mad  Chi are not toys and I don't know why adults who are suppose to be responsible let a child handle a small fragile creature in that kind of manner. :?
so sad - maybe you could go back and check on him
I hate it when little kids think dogs are unbreakable toys. :x my mom has a shepard mix named misty...misty is a pretty big dog but one time i saw my moms friend's 4 year old kid kind of hitting misty on the back and i lost it! this kid had been told 5 times not to do that to the dog so i went up to the little kid and told him "how would you like it if i started pounding on your back like that?" i said it with kind of a mean tone and the kid just stared at me then ran away. he never hit the dog again after that. :D
That is terrible. I have a three year old who use to think Hershey was a toy. I knew it would be lots of work. Kids that small have to be taught. I never let Hershey out of my site when my son is around. He is just too little and wants to test his limits. He is rarely alowed to hold her just help feed her give her treats and she loves to chase him. Hershey has adapted to him very well also. Any time he is around she turned it into a gave... she is no fool.
I have thought about this baby for 4 days now and it still breaks my heart. I'm thinking about getting their phone number off the medical report and calling them to see if they would be interested in selling him. I can't take him right now because of my six month old shepard puppy but my mom's shitzu had to be put down two months ago and I bet I could talk her into taking the little fella. I guess I should find out if the man that we responded to passed away or not before I call though, sure would be pretty ackward to call them about their puppy if their father just passed away.
Report the people to the SPCA for cruelty to animals

That is the solution. Obviously the people are too dumb to care for a great little creature like a Chi. It also makes you wonder how they treat their kids, doesn't it?

That's what I do to my niece whenever she is hurting somebody else's anything or somebody else. SHe's over right now and I just now let her hold Snap. I've been so cautious with that but the help of some people on the site made me worry less about it. She's great with Snap! I'm watching them play right now :D She turned out to be much more careful and responsible with my lil guy after all and I'm really happy!
