Bath time?

759 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  NaliaLee
Hello, I am very confused about bathtime. How long after I get my chi puppy can I bathe him? And how often for the rest of his life is okay to bathe him?
Thanks!

Well I would definitely let them get settled in before you try giving them a bath. You don't want to overdo it as their skin can dry out so I only give mine a bath every 1-2 months, and use the puppy wipes in between if he gets a little dirty. Mine's a smooth coat so it might make a difference if you have a long coat. Make sure you keep them very warm afterwards. Hope that helps!
I bathe Cooper about once every 2 weeks and have since he was a puppy. I think he had his first bath around 4 months of age and I also used the puppy wipes which he hated. I don't like giving him baths so close together - I'd rather once a month - but it's not me that decides ... HE is the one that jumps in the shower with me uninvited to get bathed.

I won't even start on how WRONG that whole scene is.
That's funny..my cat tries to get in the shower with me too and she sleeps in the sink..i have a weird cat. Anyways I give my dogs a bath once a month but more often when they were puppies(as they tend to get a little dirtier when learning the whole crate training thing) You can give your puppy a bath anytime as long as youre not using a medicated soap or something that will dry them out too much
I bathed Bindi immediately............I like my critters clean and ya just never know what she had been into prior to my home :)
Mine were bathed with within a 24 hours of getting them....u can also check skin better and check for fles when they are wet.

Me too, Vic. The breeder I bought Jasmine from had a very messy house, and it really smelled, so Jasmine smelled too. It was a 2 hour drive home, and I could hardly wait to get home and give her a bath!
Thanks all! I feel better now knowing how often I can give him a bath. This is such a great place. All my questions get answered and so quickly too!!!!
