When she had the first one at the vets she let out a screech...she never had reacted to getting an injection before... the next week I was giving it to her at home...and as soon as she saw the syringe she started howling..like a banshee warrior...and she began fighting and wiggling like an alligator....I had a heck of a time giving her the injection....so this week we thought my husband should give the injection while I held her...no way was she going to let that happen...she fought and cried...so I said enough of this and handed her back to my husband..picked up the syringe and gave her the shot..no screeching, no fighting...wheew....you would be shocked at how strong she is...but I think when I took the no nonsense approach she felt it and decided to co-operate ( hopefully ) so 3 down, 3 more to go and then monthly.... I have always prided my self on my injection technique...never had a patient complain...Bella was ruining my track record :D

When I was giving my chi injections, I held her while hubby gave the injections. At 1st she howled, wriggled & tried to get away. How I got her to relax was to cover her eyes as I was holding her and hold a small piece of meat like chicken in my hand. She would take the shot & be ready for that piece of meat. It's best if you can keep her calm so it's not so painful & the needle doesn't break. Maybe there's an alternative B12? Like a pill or something?

The smaller a dog, the stronger they are!
I rather hold a german sheperd down than a chi... Always afraid to hurt them when you hold them to hard....

May I ask why she gets the injections?

BG does that when she gets her nails trimmed. You will just pick up the trimmer and she screams like you are killing her. I think it is their way to make you feel guilty! Such a little drama queen or diva

I had to give B12 shots to humans once in a blue moon. (true b12 defiency is pretty rare in humans) They told me they burned as the solution went in. Maybe the same with Bella? Poor baby. Hope she is getting better from the pneumonia. Sue

One thing I know I cannot be (and trust me there are alot) is a nurse. If I lived closer to you nabi, I would let you do the dirty work on darling Bella and I would kiss it and make it better! LOL

I have to self inject b12 shots monthly but my b12 dropped to zero at one point so I was injecting myself twice weekly intramuscular and it really hurts lol my leg would be sore for a day or so and I would have to insert the needle super slow it's hard injecting yourself lol! I am a nurse also and inject most of my patents monthly I work in a nursing home none of them seem to complain we do them subcutaneous there though.

Poor girl :( only a few more to go!!! Hopefully it gets easier.

I have B 12 injections every week and they don't burn......I don't think the chi would burn from it either. Maybe that was an older formula or something....

Glad the injections are going well and that Bella is back to her diva self. I know it is not easy doing injections, having done them for my 1st chihuahua who needed insulin injections daily. Thank God Bella has you Nabi to take such good care of her. She is a very lucky girl.
