Update on Bijoux:

Yesterday I woke up and went to give Bijoiux her vitamins, which by the way is impossibly hard..but I find new foods to hide them in everyday ; p

Anyways, while I'm camouflaging them I hear something coming from the living room, it's her play bark. I peak around the corner and she is playing with my cat and doing her play bow. She hasn't done this since she got hurt. I noticed she seemed to limp a bit less but I didn't get my hopes up.

Here's the best part.
You know how the vet thinks it was due to an injury? He calls me today and says that he spoke to the specialist who was to do the surgery and he say's he would like to wait and re-evaluate Bijoux because he strongly believes it was "an acute injury and she may recover in 2-3 weeks"

AND SHE IS!!!!!!!!!!

Her patella will always be loose, and this doesn't rule out her needing surgery down the road, but now that I know it could happen and I can be preventative. I also bumped up her emergency savings so that if it ever does happen I'll be better financially prepared to help her.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes and good thoughts they worked : D -Not that I'm getting my hopes up or anything haha

ps. Any advice on getting your chi's to take their vitamins? She's catching on to me ;p

glad to hear Bijoux is improving :) . i sometimes have to give Tootsie pills ,and at first i was hiding them and that worked great, but then she got wise to that, and was so smart, it just didnt work anymore. she would always eat the treat and spit out the pill, no matter what i hid it in, she knew. so, only thing i could think of was first i would tell her. lol . like i really think she understood what i was saying " Tootsie , i have to give you your pill, and after that your gonna get a yummy treat" , so i open her mouth , pop it down , which she doesnt like , but right after the pill, she gets a yummy treat. now she is used to it and actually gets excited when i tell her i have to give her her pill cause she knows she'll get that yummy treat :)

Oh great news! I swear Bijoux's personality must be identical to my Kahlua. She just knows when I'm trying to 'slip' her anything. I use my other dogs as help; I put her pills in ground beef and she'll snatch it up so that the others don't get it. But that only works if you have multiple dogs lol.
I'd just try stuffing it in things you know she usually swallows without chewing much. My Julian takes his meds crushed into a little piece of bread so it's like a dough ball.

That sounds very hopeful for Bijoux....:daisy:

I use a vitamin powder that I sprinkle in Bellas puree...it must not taste bad as she never seems to notice it and believe me, she is very picky !

Thanks everyone :) The vet is giving her a different type of pain killer which tastes like meat so here's hoping she will take to that one better.

Elaine I love the idea of telling tootsie that's so cute.

Bijoux's vitamins are too big for her to swallow and the itsy bitsy , 10 mg pain killers must taste like poo because she flips our drools and throws a fit if I try tough love-which btw doesn't work ;p yet it's ironic, one day she wouldn't take a vitamin so popped another open and literally opened her mouth and poured it right on her tongue, she wasn't happy with me but no hysterics. *sigh* what can I say Bijoux is a well documented drama queen

If it's injury she needs to be on CRATE rest. For 2-4 weeks at the very least. Letting her move around unrestricted is making the problem less likely to heal. Even a minute in the other room unsupervised by you playing with the cat is TOO MUCH. CRATE rest. Leashed potty breaks.

I had a large breed dog who had a lot of hip issues and my one hound has a few joint issues (knees and ankles) so my Vet and nutrionist put my kids on this:

Wholistic Canine Complete Joint Mobility

It is a powder vitamin supplement that does wonders. My Chelsea (Shepherd Rotti Mix) made it to 14 before I had to let her go due to other health issues with out having hip surgery.

It also helps protects knees as my my two chis like to take flying leaps off of furniture etc.

Here is the link to Amazon:

Amazon.com: Wholistic Pet Canine Complete Joint Mobility Organic Supplement 1lb: Pet Supplies

Also I am not a big fan of giving my kids pain pills unless they really need it for a few reasons. One it masks the pain and the pet can injure themselves more as they do not realize it. Once again I am going more holistic with my kids so if someone gets a sprained ankle (clumsy Basset Hound) and we used this for BG's spay we give Arnica.

Hope this helps
