Hey everyone, here is an assortment of pictures of Brewster.

The night we got him from N.O.A.H.

Showing off his big ears

Magical glowing dog

Curled up, sleeping

Looking rather dapper while showing off his new collar (I think this is definitely his best picture yet!)

Nice looking dog! He looks happy and settled in. What is N.O.A.H.?
I'm guessing N.O.A.H. is a rescue organization? If so, thanks for rescuing a Chi in need!

Brewster is a very good looking boy! He seems very regal. Looks like he is settling well. Congrats!
N.O.A.H. is a local shelter, about an hour away from where we live. They're wonderful and do a lot of outside spay/neuters for a good price. Brewster was $125 and came neutered, teeth hand scaled, recent flea/tick treatment, and totally up to date on his shots. Plus we received a free well dog exam voucher, 45 days of basic ShelterCare pet health insurance, and a coupon for a Cesar Milan DVD!
Thank you so much for going for a rescue. That all sounds wonderful except for the Cesar Milan dvd. He trains using force and negative reinforcement, I believe a dog as smart and caring as a chi does so much better with positive reinforcement. I think all dogs do, but especially a dog as people oriented as a chi. If you really need help with any aspect of training your dog, we here will be glad to help you out.
I love the name. Very cute pup! I hope you enjoy many happy years together!
Good for you on adopting this little guy... He is so cute!
You live really close to my area (I live in Sequim) There are a couple other people on here in our local areas as well:)
Just curious as I was looking at the picture with his lease..it looks like it could be a bit too heavy for his neck, but I was not sure. They have such little skinny necks:)
Best of luck and congratulations!

Oh, very cool! We live on Whidbey currently, but will be moving to Bellingham at the beginning of next month. There is actually a Chihuahua Festival on July 21st in Mount Vernon that I discovered yesterday.. $5/person and all proceeds go to chi rescues. My boyfriend and I are thinking of going.
I was wondering if the leash was too heavy, too. Do you think it would harm him to continue using it?

I'll hold off on getting the dvd, then. I'm huge on reading books, so I've been getting every dog training, chi, and rescue dog book our library has to offer. I'm not a total newbie to dog training, but I am a newbie to small breed dog training and I realize it's definitely different.
We have been doing lots of positive reinforcement (verbal praise and pets) and we usually do about 10 minutes of training sessions per day with treats. We've been doing an "alpha exercise" corrective behavior for when he barks at other dogs (flipping him over, looking into his eyes until he breaks eye contact) and then we do lots of praise and petting for when he is quiet-- he has issues with getting physically aggressive towards other dogs, but only when on-leash. If anyone has suggestions for that, it would be much appreciated ;)
