changing feeding schedule??

I have been free feeding Callie since she was a puppy. Now that shes 10 months I've noticed shes becoming more and more picky. She also seems to forget to eat to the point at which she will get sick. I want to start feeding her just two meals a day and hoping that she will eat them when I put the down. But I'm a little concerned, how long can she go without food? Her water bowl is always full but in I've been trying to put down the bowl of food, and when she refuses to eat I take it back again. I did this this morning and she didn't want it, so I took the bowl up. I was gone for 8 hours today, my roomates were home and checked on Callie but didn't offer her any food, but when I came home she STILL didnt want it! Any suggestions?

Marcus does this all the time, sometimes it's 18-24 hours before he'll decide to have a bite or two. Then he'll eat pretty good for a day or so. If it's been too long I put a little boiled chicken in his dry food, this usually works as he does love chicken.
I have this problem with Jasmine also. Some days she just doesn't want to eat at all, and then may go most of the next day without eating. It concerns me when she goes almost 2 days without eating, but when I mentioned it to my vet, he didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about. Just said she will eat when she gets hungry.

I will sometimes mix some chicken or hamburger in with her dog food to tempt her to eat, but I really don't like to do this too often as I'm afraid she'll get to the point where she won't eat her dog food without human food mixed in.
Seiah gets fed three times a day, and he was also having the problem of eating regularly. But I think it was because of the bag, I recently opened a new one and hes been eating on time and all of it at once. I also sprinkle a doggy yogurt treat over it to entice him.

Drives me crazy when Lily won't eat.

Lily had breakfast yesterday about 7am. I purposely didn't give her too much because we were going for a walk in some pretty intense heat and I thought it would be best if she didn't have a full tummy. Offered her the rest of her breakfast about noon. No thanks, not interested. Tried again about 5pm. Nope. Tried again about 9pm. Still no. She woke me up at 3:30 this morning because she was ravenous. And the answer is yes, I did get up and feed her.
I seem to have solved my problem. at least temporarily. I picked up some Cesar dog food in the little tins and mix about a quarter of a pack in with Callies kibble. She lishes it down in minutes and comes back looking for more. They have lots of flavors too (I started with turkey) so hopefully she wont get bored.
