Once I put Remi down outside to goto the bathroom - he does his business and starts eating/chewing on whatever he can that's on the ground. When I call him to come to me he acts like he doesn't even know his name! It's very frustrating and does not lead for fun times at 4:30AM. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Teresa

How old is Remi? I had the same problem with Angel. He is now 1 year old and much better! Not totally perfect - lol -but much better. I take him out on lead to do his business and when he is done, I take the leash off so he and our golden can run around the yard. He still eats weeds and grass and stuff, but not as bad as before.

Also, when I took him to the park for a walk, he would constantly eat the geese poop - how disgusting!! I have recently bought a gentle leader collar/harness type and he doesn't try to eat as much lol!!

Luckily, they do mature!! lol.

Jaxx has started doing this too! I keep hoping that it is a stage. I tell him to drop the item he is chewing and most of the times he does but I don't want to reward him for dropping things for fear that he will start picking things up just to be rewarded.

He picks up everything from mulch to trash on the ground. A couple of weeks ago one of our neighbors threw out chicken wing bones in the yard unfortunately, Jaxx got one before I could stop him and got choked on it making it so he was unable to breathe. Luckily I was able to get it out and the vet said he was okay but now when he picks up anything in the yard I am afraid he is going to get choked again.

Luckily Jaxx still does his business but he is always trying to pick up items in the yard before, between, and after.

I call with a treat in my hand. I show the treat (dried chicken or duck) and call and they are back to me in a flash. Then I call and sometimes treat and sometimes don't and they learn to come (usually) when called.

Ditto! Just lots of repetition and reward. Food motivated dogs are the easiest to train lol. If you're in a pinch and just trying to let him out quick but need to go; on those occassions just keep him on a loose lead. Not even a thick leash, but just a small thin string attached to a harness (not collar.) Tie it to something near your door. Have it long enough that he doesn't realize he's even on one; until you call and then can "reel him in" so to speak, lol, if he doesn't reply right away. =)
