Chico is slightly over 15 months and yesterday was his first day of exhibiting any illness ever. About 9 am I put the Roomba down to clean my floors (first time using it) and none of the dogs seemed interested in it. :) That was good.

Shortly after the Roomba finished it's job, I cleaned it out, charged it back up and sat down to read email.

Chico starting honking, like a reverse sneeze. I went over to him and stroked his throat and the honking/coughing stopped. This was at 11:30 am. All day long he had periods of honking/coughing/retching and would throw up a foamy white substance. A few times it was a copious amount, but most times it was a little bit.

About 2 pm the foamy white contained a bit of dog kibble (They eat Innova adult) that was in square chunks. Picture the kibble expanded as if it had been soaked in water.

The color of the foam never changed all day and he only threw up kibble soaked foam a few times. When I held him wrapped up in a towel keeping him quiet and loving him up, he didn't seem distressed, only when he was out walking around the house and outside. I kept him quiet all day and he was not himself but not sickly either. I think he was confused.

About 5 pm I gave him a miniscule amount of pepto-bismol. (Duh me, should have given it to him earlier in the day) and that worked.

I fed him 4 pieces of kibble at dinner time and he was fine all night. This morning I fed him about 8 pieces of kibble and he's fine. Happy Dance! :)

Sorry this is so long. I called the vet yesterday afternoon during an interval when he had stopped honking/throwing up foam - thinking he was over his episode - and she said it wouldn't be a collapsed trachea if he was also throwing up. She had no clue what it was, but said if he stopped having any episodes to give him a VERY tiny amount of food, which I did.

The interesting thing is, my neighbor across the street told me 3 of his 5 dogs regurgitated right after they ate in the morning. Real puke with food. One time. Reguritating.

The more interesting thing is I have had an upset tummy off an on for a few days, but the vet said it was rare for human to give dog illness of that sort.

But, the bottom line is he is back to his normal happy self. :)

I wonder what it was?

I think these little guys just have 24 hour "things" like we do. My guys do anyway, just every once in awhile. I'm glad your little guy is feeling better today!

Yes, he sure is doing well today. Thanks! It was odd, because he's never had any minute where he acted sickly before. Even after neutering he acted like no big deal. :)

There just never seems to be a dull moment with these little ones. Mine are always coming up with some new behavior to make me wonder what's going on. :)

I feel bad for them when they throw up, but generally it's never as serious as diarhea. Dogs just do throw up! I've had my big dogs eat, then throw up the whole meal, undigested. Lovely. But they seem fine. Who knows? I'm so glad he's feeling better!

Happy to hear that Chico is doing okay now. My first thought was kennel cough. We got a new puppy and she camewith it and she spread it to the other 2 chi's.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. :)

15 months he had one bad day, and it was awful observing him not being his usual happy self.
