I have a slightly spoiled 8 month old chihuahua and we just got a new little yorkie. She is the sweetest little thing and loves to be around people. However, Jaxon our chihuahua HATES her. He literally lifts his lip up every time she is around and he freaks out on her. Tonight he literally jumped on her and attacked. It was very scary. He's never like this, so this is new for us. She's been here about a month.

Do any of you have any advice at all as to how to handle this situation?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

Hmmmm i have a feeling that Jaxon was a bit more than "slightly spoilt" HaHa
He is jealous of the puppy because he is so used to it just being him. When our older dog did that to Toby our pu we claped our hands and said stop it in a loud firm voice or we would remove the older dog from the situation and she could come back when she was calm. Also Jaxon would now be icking up on you being nervous so try and be calm etc.....

Yes, definately jealousy involved here. Was it an actual attack or was he just letting the pup in his place? (this could look like an attack and sound loud and scary).

Give it some times. Introducing a new puppy can take some time and patience. I would make sure you supervise them together and make sure that you give them equal affection. And as said above they will feed off of you being nervous about the situation.

A new puppy; it should be a delight, not an anxiety issue :( Sorry you are
going through this. Definitely assert yourself with Jaxon and let him know
you are in charge. Over time, the new pup will learn it's place in the pack
and hopefully Jaxon will relax. In the meantime, do not leave them alone together...

Macy does not adore Jordan all the time either. She was my baby first, so as terrible as it might sound, i still give her preferential treatment. When they get treats, or chewies, I make a show of giving one to macy first and then jordan second. If they want to sit by me, Macy gets first choice of where to sit, then I tell jordan to hop up. It lets jordan and macy know the "pack order". Now Macy will only growl if jordan tries to lay on her or something, lol.

Thanks for responding! Yeah, I should have written SPOILED ROTTEN! Jaxon is a very spoiled little puppy. It's just gotten so bad. He and her cannot be in the same room at all. She is in the process of being crate trained and every time we get her out he growls. It kills me to see my sweet little baby get so mean.

I'm hoping that over time he'll learn to love her like we do!
