I had Yorkies for 15 years and I didn’t have them wear collars. I would use a harness to walk my bigger girl, Lilly, 12 lbs, but my smaller girl, Bella at 5lbs was too scared to walk the neighborhood. Both ran around the back yard a lot also.

So, is there a reason I should have my Chihuahua puppy (3mos, maybe up to 2lbs now) wear a collar at all times? Do you use a collar in the day and remove at night? She doesn’t like it and I can’t see wearing something 24/7 to be comfortable as I would want a break. I love taking off my socks at the end of the day. Lol. I will walk her with a harness (when I find one that fits her better). Once I take off the collar it is very challenging to get it back on. I actually had to ask my son’s girlfriend to get it back on.

I just want to make sure I am not missing something if I choose not to have her wear a collar like my yorkies. Thank you so much!

Small dogs like chihuahuas should never wear a collar, it can damage their throats and lead to a collapsed trachea. Always use a harness. Dogs shouldn't be wearing anything in the house because it could get caught on something and become a choking hazard

if they get loose where i live you need their tags on them Ido think harness works better they seem to get used to it
