Does this mean blue chis aren't as at risk as I thought?

Hi I am looking at getting a chihuahua pup, and have found the perfect little boy, but the risk of him developing alopecia is making me hesitate - after reading this article is he really at any greater risk that another chihuahua? And if he does get alopecia, is it really that big a deal? I know I will love him anyway. I've posted a pic of him - Please help!

I really, dont think alopecia has any threats...besides hair loss which can be fixed with warm clothing :) they'll just be colder than normal lh or sc chis. Dex might have this as well he has balding spots all over his head, half back, and the back of the legs. He's such a character and love him all the same

Dilution alopecia is not that big a deal, I have a chi with demodectic mange - that's a bigger problem. Bald patches don't bother them at all, and, it gives you an excuse to buy them more cute clothes. ;)

Besides, you're not getting him for his gorgeous coat and color, right? You're adopting a new family member and best friend - looks are superficial, it's what's in his heart that counts. And I bet he would LOVE to have you in his heart. :)
