Diggin'!

Bosco and Lola both have to make a little nest before they will settle down to snooze...Bosco will pick up the edge of a blanket in his mouth and move it around until it is proper. He will then twirl around a couple times and plop down.

Lola on the other hand will dig. Dig, dig, dig. I think she does it till the bed gets warm from the friction, and then she lays down.

The bad thing about Lola doing this is, we are having to buy new dog beds on a regular basis because she digs right through them! Beds are the only thing she digs - she doesn't dig in the yard or anything else. Any suggestions on how I break her of this habit? She mostly does it at night while we are sleeping or else while we are at work during the day so it's hard to catch her in the act consistently. Do any of your Chi's dig like that?

Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you, I just had to laugh when I read your post.

Koke does the same thing, only she does it mostly on my pillow or bedspread. While she digging she has this cute little rumbling growl going on.
So far she hasn't made any holes though. LOL

I hope someone can help you.
im sorry i cant help either but i am just picturing them doing their thing and its so cute! BElla digs in the carpet and her bed as well but i have a blanket in her bed so she doesnt dig through the bed. I think she is nesting. Maybe put blankets down so she digs at the blankets instead.
Bindi is a digger too............

wow, i used bed way to many times in that one sentence... you guys must think i am some sort of grammatically challenged person lol  :p
No answer for how to break the habit mine do it to especially on my new silky comforter
Apparently chis are known as mole dogs and like to burrow even if it's not cold. Brooke used to dig everything, including the mattress, out of the bed, turn the bed upside down and then lie on it. Minx and Brooke still like to "burrow" but now, as well as having a rug tucked around and under the mattress, I also have little rugs or blankets just scrunched up in their beds and they usually only disturb the loose ones.
Jasmine doesn't dig - she'll take her head and nose and move the blankets around till she's satisfied, then she turns around about 5 or 6 times, before finally settling down.

Tia, my chi who went to the bridge last year, was a digger though. She used to wake me up at night with her digging. I think it's a nesting thing and have no idea how you could stop it. Count yourself lucky she only digs in her bed, and not on your furniture or carpet. Tia would dig at the edge of the carpet so much, she tore it loose from the tacking strips.
The only thing Auggie digs at is the blankie in his bed. Sometimes he gets in there and gives it fits even tossing it completely out of the bed

Poco does that to hide treats only when he's full though
Cooper will dig, pull and nudge. He's got all his bases covered. I'm not sure how you can break her of that habit ... it sounds like she's found the best method for her needs. Have you tried covering her up with a blanket so she doesn't have to do all the work? When Cooper digs, I notice he tries to make a little nest area for himself and stops when it's the perfect size for his big 'ole booty to rest in there. Maybe a thicker blanket would help?

Are Lola's nails short enough? Lily digs in her bed but she never leaves a mark. I keep her nails well trimmed. Just a thought... a dumb thought, but a thought nonetheless.
Lola digs too! She'll dig to make her spot comfy to sleep. She likes it all messy and not smooth and flat! I put a blanket on her bed or anywhere she likes to dig so she's not actually scratching my leather sofa for example!!
She usually only digs when she knows there is something hiding underneath like when her ball goes under the bed or there's a toy under a pillow....as if to say "mum....get it for me will you!!" :D

No, it's a good thought! :) Her nails are kept pretty short though.

I'm glad I am not the only one with a manic digger! :D
