Dry Skin

954 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  meemster
Dusty (my chihuahua) has dry skin and I've been bathing him with a medicated shampoo w/oatmeal and aloe and it has helped somewhat. I recently read that I can use Omega 3 capsules or Cod Fish oil to help him but I am don't really know what dosage to give my 14lb. chihuahua. Can any one help me figure out the dosage?

ABSOLUTELY give the oil pill. I give Kemo one of mine....there is alot of foods now with it added in. There is also Vita Gravy that has it in there too. Some people give it 2-3x's a week, I was giving it everyday....but I don't think he needs it that much since the food/gravy has it. After a bath I give it to help replenish the oils....if you buy a "dog" brand it will guide you on the label. People kind I am sure one pill is sufficent.
Omega Pills

If you're talking about the cod oil pills, they sell them at pet stores and the recommended dosage is one pill for a dog that is chihuahua size. If you have the gel caps, what I do is poke a hole in it and squeeze it over the dog food. Mix it up and they can't tell, especially if you feed them moist food.

I have Scooter on the cod oil. We haven't seen any results yet, but it's only been a week.

Worth a shot, I think.
