I have had Poppy for almost 4 weeks now and have been feeding her 4 times a day, as I understand you are supposed to do with pups. I have been giving her Pedigree puppy food, which she seemed to like.
Anyway, the last two days, she has been rather indifferent to her food. When we get up in the morning, I put her food out and she sniffs maybe takes a bite or two and then goes off to play! Shouldnt she be ravenous first thing?
I give her food spaced out about 4-5 hours in between and she hardly finishes it..I give her about two good tablespoons full each time.
Can anyone clarify for me how much they are supposed to be eating (she is 14 weeks old on friday) and why she suddenly seems less interested?
Also she is FULL of energy and very lively and playful, I am just hysterical that she isnt eating enough! Any help with this greatly appreciated!

YES! She will be 14 weeks on Xmas eve! Is Sera exactly the same age? What a coincidence! So how much does sera eat then?

That's sooo cute that Sera and Poppy have the same birthday! :)

I've seen alot of people comment how their chi's are picky eaters and Mr. Peepers is a VERY picky eater. Buster is extremely picky when it comes to treats. He only likes one kind. If she's still got energy, is drinking water and is otherwise acting fine, I think that might be it. :)

well, at 14 weeks, according to the charts, she must be getting about 200grams. It must be written somewhere on puppy food packages- it usually is. Anyway, two spoonfulls three times per day looks like too little for me :? My Richie never had a problem with appetite, but i know that many other chis do. It is just important that they still get enough especially at this stage, when they are growing. Maybe you can include some snacks that she will like more...Or sometimes you'll even have to hand feed, because when they are playing they can forget to eat. This sounds funny, but it really happens with pups!

I wouldn't worry too much, I don't think you can set and exact amount, just like 1 person eats a 2000 caleries a day, another person couldn't eat that much if they tried.

As long as she has energy to play and is going to the bathroom fine and not loosing weight, why worry about it?

My girls will go along eating fine and then suddenly only eat about 1/2 of what I give them for a couple of days. Then they go back to eating the regular amount.

Also remember if she's been eating a greenie or chewing on other bones it will give her calories too, so she won't be as hungry.

And the chart on the dog food bags is just a guide line, it doesn't mean all dogs should eat exactly that amount.

Thanks for the help guys! I am worried even though she is still lively and seems happy..today I gave her breakfast and she didnt go near it. Then she had 2-3 mouthfuls about 11am. I am purposely not giving treats at the moment because I want to monitor just how much she is eating of the "right" food. In any case we are off to the vet tomorrow so i will mention it to him...thanks again for your replies! :)
