Okay. All my patience and determination this past month with Lacey have finally paid off. My persistence in insisting she learn the word "come" and "up-up" (for me to pick her up) has paid off, too.
How has this paid off for me (and for Lacey), you ask?
WELL....................

WE FINALLY GOT TO GO OUTSIDE TODAY! It was beautiful out, and Lacey, who came to me with NO leash/harness/outdoor experience, went on a walk with me in the backyard. It was filled with a lot of encouraging words and me saying "Lacey, COME!" but we did it!

It was such a relief to put that dog on the ground and not have her take off on me, try to pull out of the harness, or run in circles thinking the leash was going to kill her.

We only walked around for 10 minutes or so, but it was the most rewarding and happy 10 minutes of my day. Her tail was wagging and she was sniffing everything with great enthusiasm. She didn't even flinch when she heard the neighbors playing basketball :coolwink:

Not only was today a breakthrough on that, but I think I finally found dog food she will eat. So, no more chicken-chihuahua and no more starving chihuahua! -cheers-
Just had to share all our great news for the day with people who would actually care to hear it! Haha

That is so awesome! Congrats to you both! You are doing so good with her, I am so happy she is listening and getting to be more relaxed and happy herself.
I just can't believe how quickly she learns things. She learned "come" in 2 days and "sit" in 1. She's one of those dogs that's smart enough to play dumb at all the right times, too. Hahaha

Oh Johanna, I'm always happy to hear about accomplishments.
Great job! Your patience and love paid off! I'm very excited
for you both, walking with your dog is so important, it is meditation
in a way. Great news!
