[Maggie's Mom]

Hi everyone! :wave:

I've introduced myself in the newbie corner I'll be getting my little Maggie this Friday, and I'm sure you can imagine how happy and impatient I am!! :lol: I have to admit that I'm also a little nervous... I've read a lot about Chihuahuas (especially here!) and I've read many times that Chis are sometimes slow to warm up to a new owner. I was wondering if you guys could tell me if you had problems when you first got your Chi... Was she/he slow to warm up to you? What can I except on that first day? Would you have any advice on what I should or shouldn't do??

hi and welcome to the forum!

as for your question, i wouldn't worry t much about your chi not liking you at first. every chi is different. once they get used to you you'll be their whole world. chico didn't like me the first day. he was so small and scared. i didn't get upset, i knew that would probably happen. it only lasted for a day though (it stopped right around the time i let him sleep in my bed the first night, lol) just give your new chi time to get used to you. and don't forget to post pics!

I agree, they all act sorta scared the first day or two but after that they will love your FOREVER! Now when it comes to adopting an adult, that can take longer. I didn't read your newbie intro yet so I am assuming your are getting a puppy?

I think it's true that they're a bit slow to warm up but once they do... you will have the best friend you could ever ask for in your entire life.

Auggie was the same Scared for one day then just turned into an angel Sorry to be gooey but he really is. :lol: You will be just fine

I really think Marcus should have been named Don Juan or Romeo or something. He was snuggling and loving the first day and now he loves nearly everyone he meets. They are all different so it's hard to say what to expect.

Cooper snuggled the first day as well - the second day, he decided to eat my shoes (they were still on my feet) and that I was his best friend in the whole world. Then he met OmaKitty and I became his second best friend in the whole world. You don't want to ask OmaKitty what she thinks of Cooper though.

Seiah was great from the start too. The first day he came home all we did was sleep. He was just a baby and he napped a lot, and I was so excited the night before that I was unable to sleep. So the day he came home I placed him in his wooden basket and held it on my tummy while I took a nap sitting upright in bed. :lol:

They are such loving dogs i agree it takes no time for them to settle in and love you to pieces!

Tyson was shy for the first day now he is a little tyke!! in to everything and follows me everywhere
