12 yr old Chihuahua blind in one eye, 94 yr old owner can no longer keep him....Story below....
In case you missed it the first time, here is the situation:
A lifelong, personal friend of mine is needing the help. It's for her mother and her mother's dog. If anyone reading this on Face Book can help out, or knows someone who can, it would be a great service and display of compassion for both animals and the elderly in need.
This is the letter of request and explanation from my friend:
"My 95-year-old mother lives in an assisted living facility in Athens, GA with her 12-year-old, male, Chihuahua mix, whom she rescued probably 8 years ago. However, my mother recently fell and fractured her hip, and is currently in a post-acute rehab facility (Heritage Unihealth on Hawthorne, in Athens, GA). The medical team has indicated that, even when she gets well enough to return to assisted living, she will no longer be able to care for "Eugene." I have been boarding “Gene” over at the Gaines School Animal Hospital for several weeks, but am now searching to find him a “forever-home”, as soon as possible. At this point, all rescue organizations contacted have to me they cannot, or will not, help and that the only option is to put him in the area’s shelter/pound and hope for the best.
He is blind in one eye (but that has never seemed to be much of a hindrance to him) and he eats the special food for urinary health (has had some crystals in his kidneys in the past). He weighs 11 pounds, is neutered, and is up to date on all of his shots. He is mild mannered, gets along well with other animals, and does not have a history of any excessive barking. (We can provide more information and are willing to continue to assist with food costs and other expenses. We will also try to arrange transportation to your location.)

I live in Pensacola, FL and work in administration for the University of FL, so it is a challenge for me to do much from here. I will be in the Athens area the weekend of Labor Day and can assist in the placement of him at that time, probably before that if a home is located. Thank you. – Dottie."
IF ANYONE COULD STEP UP AND HELP THIS LITTLE FELLOW BE SAVED FROM A TERRIBLE FATE, PLEASE IM me ON Face Book, or email me a.s.a.p. @ [email protected]. Thanks!!

I wish I could help :( My family lives quite a ways away and wouldn't take another dog and I live in North Carolina now. I hope someone will help him.

If someone could walk him would she be able to do the rest or does he really have to go? I ask because I know of a dog near me that were saved from rescue when their owner died by being rehomed with an elderly person but with a commitment that another dog owner walk him every day, it seems to work great.

I realise it might not work here but just a thought :)

Is he house trained? Good with children? How much does his food cost? I'm on a very tight budget since I took in an abandoned pit bull puppy so he wouldn't be put to sleep
