Fox or Wolf

Last night was a beautiful night here in PA......we took Kemo and Bindi as usual to the high school to have a romp. Way in the back of the field I saw two reddish/tan animals. At first glance I thought it was deer BUT on closer look they were too low to be deer, then I told my hubby and we saw the fluffy tail with white tips. I said they are wolves - of course in my mind I said they cant be wolves but they looked too big to be foxes.....I so wish I had my binoculars with me. I told hubby to investigate while I hold the dogs. Fear went thru me thinking what if they saw the dogs and said hmmmm dinner!!! He said what if they attack me  - I said no way they are too afraid of you (hoping I was right as I said that) so off he went and he said he saw them staring at him thru the bushes and one walked out and he said he thought they were foxes (which makes sense for this area) but ya never know if people have wolves as pets etc and maybe they got out.......anyway I was grateful I saw them as we always walk the back field as part of our routine.....imagine if they saw us and attacked the babies!!!!!

After that we saw their paw prints everywhere----Kemo was mad sniffing them. I just thought it was someone elses dog but my husband said "notice there are no human prints near them dear"

I guess I would have been a lousy cub scout huh?

sounds pretty creepy though!!!!!i bet youll be terrified everytime you hear an owl now or see a full moon!
i would be scared to go out at night!although im guessin they are probally foxes...but you never know!
Lord have mercy! I bet anything they were Red Fox. A entire family of those things have made a den in an empty field at the end of our block. The thing is, they have lost their fear of humans. We saw five of them crossing the street about dusk one night. We used to have all these pesky "cotton tail rabbits" in the neighborhood...not any longer!! It is just not safe anymore to our babies outside for a second without supervision.

How big are they? I am guessing they were at least 40 lbs each. I mean from afar I thought they were deer so maybe even more...can they get that big?
The largest male looked to be about 25lbs. We also have a problem with "Coyotes" coming into town. They are about the size of a German Shepard. There was an article in the newspaper a couple weeks ago warning people not to leve their small animals outside. One lady said she saw one trotting out of her yard with a very large cat dangling out of its mouth! It is kind of sad, because we are invading their territory with all the new homes being built further nd further out.
yeah its sad for sure.....we have no open area anymore around here. Used to be alot of farms etc but they are all selling, that is why I want to get the heck out of here.

very scary about our lil babies
i'm thinking maybe they were foxes. i've only seen a fox a couple of times, but they looked the exact way you described them. it can be both scary and cool though to see a wild animal like that.

when i went to los angeles for the first time, we stayed at my hubby's aunt's house in Topanga Canyon which is right in the mountains. i went outside that night and i saw 2 coyote's playing in the neighbors yard! they were rolling around everywhere just having fun...i thought it was so cute. i told my hubby i wanted to pet them, so, stupid me, i start walking towards them and they stopped and just stared at me. my husband comes running after me and grabs me and we ran back in the house. i don't know what i was thinking...but i just wanted to touch them...lol.
Wow that would have scared me if I had my boy with me. I am sure the scent would drive Auggie crazy because even cats scents do
Sounds like a red fox to me. We have them here also but I have only seen them once in 18 years. Wolf, Fox doesnt make a difference to me lol they arent getting my kids
By the pics Mandi (thank u BTW) posted hubby said they looked like the fox on a wolf size body........ maybe a new breed of fox or a mix of breeds?
