Kemo is the same...daddy was long, mom was short. What he is, is a very soft shorter hair. Like humans it depends on what gene is prominant. I would not mind if he got a little fluffier but I also am posting a question about hair......Dantes_Mommy said:

Ummm.. okay Dantes daddy is a long hair chi and his mommy is short and hes starting to get thicker hair and I'm wonder when will it fully start showing which he is long or short???

My chi also had a short haired mother and long haired father, i asked the breeder i got him from and she said although he has very short hair right now, he will be a very, very fluffy, long haired, white coated dog. He is 5 months, has a dark tanned coat and is very short haired. How she knew this, i have no idea, but ask a proffessional, they really seem to know what to expect and how to tell. That's all i can offer!!
Do you have any pictures of him? You can tell when they are very young if they are long or short coat. When I bought Bijou she was 7 weeks old and it was very obvious which were long and which were short coats. Does your dog have any ear "feathering"?
