Hi Fello Chi. Lovers ((pmum waving, Petey wagging tail...))
My Sir Pete is a little over two years now and I am seriously
thinking of getting him his Rabies vaccine. I'm a little worried
about it, as I've heard alot of negs. on it. Thou at the same
time, I want to protect his health.

Well, anyway,,, back to my point LOL...
Have your Chi's. done well getting there rabies vaccine???
Anything I need to be concerned about, ask vet about, etc...????
I thought it best to wait till he was a little older, so I accomplished
that.
PLEASE HELP, worried Mumma here.
Thank you, Blessings.

When Rico got his, he developed a lump the size of a quarter that took 6 months to go away! He felt fine, but I was concerned the whole time. The vet said if it didn't go away, he would have to remove it. I'm just glad it finally went away.

I don't give my chi the rabies shot because I believe the shot is more of a risk to her health than getting rabies. She's never around other animals, especially any that may have rabies to be able to contract the disease. She's never left alone except for in the house when I go to the store. If you're determined to get your chi vaccinated, I'm glad you waited til he's older. You just need to keep a close eye on him for the first day so I would do it 1st thing in the morning. Maybe someone can tell you the correct dose the vet should give your chi.

The same thing happened to Oakley only her lump was smaller. It really irritate me! Not sure if I will ever have her get another one or not, but I definitely will be titer testing for immunity levels first.

Reese had no problems at all with his, and he got it at 4 months. Miley has a little lump on her injection site which should go away within a few months and doesnt bother her, Leo will get his in 4 weeks when he goes in for his last round of shots. To me, the risks associated with getting the vaccine are relatively low, and I think the only reason their risk of getting rabies is low in the first place is because most dogs get the vaccine, thus making it less common- but I respect that its a personal choice and commend you for doing your homework! Goodness knows these chis bring out the worry wart in all of us!
Reese, Leo and Miley wave a paw hello back to Petey :)

Its not even required in the state of Ohio
so Ive never gotten it for Dahlia.Wild animals
and bats are not a threat to her.Her feet have never
touched the yard out back.Too many big stray dogs
(Pitts N Rotts) and a huge amount of rabbits here (tapeworm).
My vet wasnt happy as they push shots like drugs.

THANK YOU to all whom replied.
Well see, we live where there are alot of
dogs in the area. I don't let him have NO
contact with other dogs but he takes walks where
others have been/etc...
and we also live next to woods, alot of Racoons/opposums/Coyotees
around close plus we are getting ready to do some traveling, so I
feel it is Best he have his.
If he was strictly inside at all times, (no outside playing/pottying/etc..)
then I would maybe not, but that is not his case. :-(
Thank you all again....

My boy ninja is severly allergic to distemper and rabies vaccine as well as the kennel cough shot in the nose with the first 2 mentioned his eyes swelled shut face blew up and hives all over his entire body and with the kennel cough one he got severe swollen lymph nodes, sore throat. Coughing, sneezing and fever we tried seperating them and also with a shot of benedryl 15 mins before and he still got a reaction so he is no longer ever to get vaccinated it is required here but I calle the animal control licensing centre and they didn't even seem to care. My vet still pushes it but I told them to go kick rocks!

Pidge some of us live in areas where you
dont want to socialize your dog for their own
safety.We are in a refinery town/inner city
and everybody has security dogs like pitbulls
or rottweilers etc.All the toy breed dogs live
indoors. There is no dog park or petsmart to
visit each other.I would like to find some chi
neighbors here but in the last year I havent.
Dahlia is older now and its too late for her.
Shes an only chi-ld is what I call it.We cant
get another one to keep her company either
as we rent.I would love to get my own house
again but I dont see it happening.

LOL that's funny.

I'm Canadian and my sister lives in Ohio I'll have to ask her if she feels like she's traveled forward in time.

The people are so much nicer and less tense
We have our days :daisy:
