Star is 4.5 months right now and I set up an appointment on Friday for her rabies, heartworm meds, and exam. I don't want to go back to the veternarian that I took my pug puppy before she passed away. I don't know anyone with pets in our city since we moved here. So I choose one of the 2 holistic veternarians that is in our area. I hope I chose the right one, the other one that I didn't choose was very into the homemade crock pot food diet that was posted in their website.

Since I just got Star recently, she got all her wormers, puppy shots and I got her records but the person I talked to said she also needs the following:

another wormer
kennel cough vaccination
fecal exam

Is any of these I listed above necessary, especially the wormer?
When is kennel cough vaccination necessay? I'm not planning to take her to the groomers or kennel/boarding. What other places that I might take her to that needs this vaccination?
Is there anything I should ask about at the veternarian when I'm there?

I just don't want the unnecessary stuff in my chi! Thanks for answering:)

Definitely do NOT do the kennel cough (bordetella).

Take a stool sample with you. No wormers until they check the stool sample and see if she has worms. No worms, no wormer needed.

Ask about titers. They are preferred over giving unneeded vaccinations.

A true holistic vet will not reccomend the kennel cough unless there is a requirement for it in your area or will give a holistic substitute for it. Holistic is a whole different world but I love it. If you have questions let me know. My Vet is trained holistic/traditional so to me it is the best of both worlds.

Do NOT do the kennel cough vaccine. A vet gave our Chi the intranasal kennel cough vaccine and she developed full-blown kennel cough. Took months to recover and she always coughed more than before the vaccine. It is only for dogs that are boarded and Chis really shouldn't be boarded. Since learned it doesn't even prevent kennel cough as there are a number of strains.
Also, never give a Chi the Lepto vaccine -- too dangerous in toy purebreed dogs. Supervise your dog when he/she is outside.
