My mom and dad have a chi/weenie mix that is about 4 years old. Since they moved to LA two and a half years ago she gained about 9 pounds and looked like a sausage with legs. She looked so uncomfortable. I had been talking and talking to my dad, who feeds the dogs, that she really needed to lose weight. He kept saying that he fed her so little and I couldn't convince him that even that 'little bit' was too much. Finally, when she started limping and couldn't jump on the chair anymore, he listened to me. I got him to buy grain-free dog food and he put her on 15 pieces of kibble, half a cup cooked green beans and a teaspoon of canned food twice a day. In the two months she's been on the diet, she's lost 3 pounds. I told him to keep going to get another 5 pounds off and we will reasses how she is. Dad was saying she's perked up so much, she started playing again and can jump on the chair and bed now. Well, yeah. lol

EDITED because I can't do math.

Yeah for your dad listening to you. Good to hear that she is doing better.

I might have to put Claude on a diet. He is a chi/dash mix also. At his vet appointment for his rabies shot he weighed almost 10 lbs and he's not even 6 months yet.

Mine all love the green beans. they really think they are getting something special when they get them. i give them like treats. Tootsie and Latte love eating and sometimes seems they cant get enough food, and if i fed them all they wanted they would get really fat, so the green beans have been great for them too.

very nice that your parents chi weenie is doing so much better since she's lost weight :)
