Clara Bow just ate her own poop  Why? What should I do about it? She is VERY food driven and cleans my floors like she hasn't eaten in days. She is very fat for only 12 wks old but doesn't have worms. The vet said I would just have to watch her intake and make sure she gets exercise or she will be overweight. Could there be other issues going on? This just grosses me out and I don't want her kissing the little kids after eating her poo.

Try feeding her some pineapple and pick up that poop before she can get it. Work on the leave- it command. There are some here who have dealt with this first hand.

Its very common. Putting some pineapple juice / crushed pineapple in her food normally helps. They don't like the taste after it comes out. Also pick it up right away.
Sometimes dogs do it when they are missing certain nutrients, so look into what you feed her. Many pups just do it though.

Chico just started this bad habit ... about a week after starting him on a liver flavored joint health pill. I don't know if this is the cause but I try to clean up right after he eliminates. I tried the pineapple but seemed to make Chico not feel well :(

She eats a mixture of Royal Canin (small breed puppy) and Wellness puppy. There are things at the pet store you can put in their food to make the poo taste awful, are those safe? It isn't always possible for me to follow her around and pick it up but I will when I can.

I just wanted to throw in here that I have always heard that it is not a good idea to mix two different foods. Something about getting to much of certain things isnt good for them as well as a few other reasons. There was a big post about it on my Great Dane board a couple of years ago. Maybe someone else can chime in.

My daughter's dog loves what her room mate calls "kitty bon bons" she had to keep the litter box closed off from her. UGH! She moved out and solved the problem for the moment.

Lily did it when she was a puppy,i used to stand and watch as soon as she went near it i clapped my hands, that frightened her,now she won't even look at it and will get as far away from it as she can.

Sly is driving me insane - I have spent so much of my time and money trying different things already to stop her. I bought her stincky sticks, tried pineapple, Forbid and other powders, got her a baby sitter now... trying to make sure that they go outside to poop. But i still think that she managed to sneakely eat a couple in the last week... and this is when I am trying to treat them from giardia... it is a vicious circle and i am going insane!

The only thing that i think helps the most is teaching them to go outside to toilet. It takes a lot of time to retrain them, and will take some of your time, but it will pay off in the long run (at least I hope so).

Otherwise, welcome to the club! This is the worst habit a dog can have! It is gross!
