My Zoey is still new to me at 13 weeks old, but she is way different from other Chi. Last night I went to move her higher on my pillow and she threw a fit and started growling and even nipping at me. My other dog never did this. How do you let this dog know that this behavior will not be tolerated. And, Oh yes, I have both dogs in bed with me. One wasn't that bad, but having two dogs in bed with me is getting to be difficult. I want to put them in their own beds at night, but I started this habit and I hate to hear the baby cry. Do your Chi's sleep in bed with you???? I was never a mom that liked the family bed and our children have never slept in our bed. So, how do I break dogs from doing it???

Maybe, u need to make sure she knows who's the boss. She might think she is the leader and that's why she growls. I think letting her sleep with you in bed it's not such a good idea when the dogs are dominant like that. I know the crying is heartbreaking when u put them in the crate, but I assure you, it will go away in a few days. I think, u should try doing that and maybe doing some reading in how to let ur dog know who's in charge. Chihuahua for Dummies is pretty good.
And I know...it's kinda uncomfortable sleeping with the doggies in bed sometimes...Well, I sleep with my 2 chis, my bf and his shih tzu in the same bed. It is getting kinda crowded :? even if I don't let them sleep in the bed the whole night. I always wake up around 2 am and I put them both in their crates. They will spend a whole night with us once a week, but no more than that, otherwise I wouldnt get any sleep.
I am sure you will get good advice from the people here about the growling thing. They r all super nice and their advice is always very helpful...I love this forum

Chico does the same thing, growls and even nips if I try to move him when he's in bed with me. When he nips at me, I usually go "OUCH!" and pretend to be hurt, and this usually gets him all up in my face kissing me and "apologizing." Since I have started doing this, he has really calmed down ALOT with the nipping and growling. I don't know if this will work if you want to try, but it kinda worked for me.

i let chiwi sleep in bed with me but when there are questions of them trying to be alpha they say not to let them sleep in your bed at all. i'm not sure how to help break them of sleeping on their own.

as for showing them you are alpha: flipping them gently onto their backs until they stop struggling is a great way. teach them to walk through the door AFTER you. and feed them after you have eaten......

I sleep with Peanut sometimes but I usually put him in his crate after a few hours.
I also have a similar problem, Peanut will think he is the boss after just a few minutes of being on the bed and he starts barking at my Fiance and his Labrador everytime they gets near it.

The Vet said the same thing to me that Luv4mygirls said about showing them who the alpha dog is.

I agree with luv4mygirls...when Snuffy growls, I'll roll her onto her back until she calms down. If she bites in an aggressive way, I tell her NO, hold her mouth and say "no bite." She has gotten much better about it :)

Don't know what to tell you on the sleeping problem, I only let mine sleep with me a few nights a week...others she will sleep in her crate. When I first got her, she would whine every night but once she realized I didn't come get her everytime...she stopped. But you def have to teach your puppy who's alpha. Good luck!

I remember the first night we had Sonny home and put him in his kennel..
He cried for literally hours...(he had never been away from all his brothers until that night)
I moved his crate to right next to our bed, and haven't had a problem since. I love to have him in bed with us because he is such a cuddle bug, but I will usually wake up at 2am to put him in the kennel, rarely does he stay in bed all night...
At puppy kindergarten we were also told to kennel them during the day for short periods of time, even when you are home.
But if the baby is running the show in bed, its definately kennel time! I know its hard when they cry...it took me a long time to get over it

I have never had a problem with Gadget being aggressive in bed.. he has his place and he knows that it is ok mom and dad move him... we have always moved him and petted him and touched him when he is sleeping... the only thing he does is get up and move to a different spot if he gets tired of us bothereing... when he sleeps down at the foot of the bed I always move him to the head of the bed because I don't want ot kick him off the bed...

I suggest the same thing that luv suggested...

I had to do that with Gadget when he was biting and chewing on us...

I also taught him to go through the door after me... well, MArk(husband) and Amanda(daughter) are still trying to work on that one.. they want him to go first and I keep telling them he will not go first...

but in my house we all sit downa nd eat together as a family and I have never had any problems with Gadget... he gets his bowl on the floor after I sit down. He has this thing he does.. he will look up at the table and make sure everybody is sitting there eating before he starts...

Good luck and God bless

Thanks for all of your advice. Tonite I am going to put her and my other chi in her pen. I will bring the pen into my room. I love sleeping with my Chi's, but it's getting too crowded. Zoey seems to like to sleep at my head. It's funny, she always has to be touching me somewhere though. Totally cracks me up. I have a feeling I am in for a long night of whining.

yeah she's really pretty !!!

i sleep with my three chi's and my bf in bed :D i never had one of them growling at me .....;

but they do growl at eachother if one gets to close if they are already sleeping :? so they can fall asleep next to eachother no problem ...but if they lie apart and one moves too closely ...it's war :D

so i sleep with one chi in the neck , and one on a different side of me :D and i move them all the time .....

kisses nat

I have been putting both girls in their play pen at night. It's next to my bed. It has been wonderful. The first night Zoey whined only a little and then they both slept in the same puppy bed. I finally got a great night sleep and I think this is gonna work. Zoey has not been growling at me. Last time I gave her a real stern NO GROWLING!! I think that worked. She hasn't done it since. Thanks for all the support.
