I bought a FIRST magazine today and it included a page on what to do with unwanted cellphones, cameras, laptops, gaming systems, dvds/cd, mp3s. (The one with dvds/cds if you donate to karma it will help SPCA)

Get cash (or good karma!) for your used electronics.

The average American buys 25 electronic devices a year - and we discard an EPA - estimated 2 million tons annually. Instead of tossing your old model, here's how to give to get back.

Cell Phones - sell for cash - An estimated 100 million phones accumulate in landfills annually. But Greenphone.com recycles used cells - and plants a tree for each one they buy. How it Works: Answer questions about quality to get a price quote and print a prepaid shipping label. Payment via check, Paypal or Obopay.

or Donate For Karma - Call to Protect refurbishes and resells used cell phones, donating 100 percent of the proceeds to organizations that combat domestic violence. How it Works: Log onto WirelessFoundation.org and click on the "Call to Protect" tab to get a prepaid mailing label or find a local drop--off location.

Digital Cameras - sell for cash - Even if your camera is slightly worn or outdated. BuyMyTronics.com will buy it to recycle or sell for parts. How it Works The Site displays a price quote and sends a prepaid shipping label or box (depending on the camera's size and weight). Payment Via Check or PayPal.

or

Donate For Karma - The Global Classroom Connection sends used cameras to schools around the world, pairing peer classes in a high-tech pen-pal program. How it Works: Go to Classroom-Connection.org for shipping information. Include your email address to get a picture from the class that recieves your camera.

Laptops - Sell for cash - Before Discarding your laptop, which can release hazardous metals into the environment, log on to CashYourLaptop.com The site buys them to refurbish and resell. How it Works: The site will send a prepard shipping label, packaging and UPS tracking number. Payment via check or Paypal.

or

Donate for Karma - The National Cristina Foundation (NCF) provides computers to disabled citizens, students and low-income families. How it works: Visit Cristina.org/donate.html and follow the instructions. When NCF finds an organization that needs your laptop, they'll arrange for pick-up, drop off or shipping.

Gaming Systems - Sell for cash - Sell old gaming systems to Sellvideogames.com, where they'll be refurbished and resold. How it Works: After accepting the site's price quote, print a prepaid postage label from the confirmation page. Payment via check or paypal.

or

Donate for Karma - Get-Well-Gamers.org is a nonprofit organization that brings consoles and video games to children's hospitals and health-care facilities. How it Works Click on the site's "donate" button. You pay shipping costs (their headquarters are in CA), but the donations are tax-deductible

DVDs/CDs - An estimated 45 tons of CDs wind up in landfills monthly - but Abundatrade.com refurbishes and recirculates used discs. How it Works- Enter the discs' UPC code (or mail them in) for a price quote, then swap your stuff for cash, gift cards, new ipods or bigger-ticket "featured trades."

or

Donate For Karma - DiscsforDogs.org sells used cds and dvds and donates 100 percent of the proceeds to their local SPCA, an animal welfare organization in NY. How it Works: Log on to the site for disc regulations and packaging information. Use Media Mail shipping to be reimbursed.

MP3 Players - Get top dollar for your music player at YouRenew.com which refurbishes and resells used electeronics. How it Works If you accept the site's price quote, they'll send you a prepaid shipping label and receipt. Payment via check or paypal.

or

Donate For Karma - Send your gently used MP3 Player to the Wounded Heroes and Music (WHAM) program at SilverStarFamilies.org/programs.html to help veterans with PTSD, illness or wounds. How It Works Find Shipping info on the site. The donation is tax-deductible.
