Hello everyone! Been searching for a Chi forum and this seems like the best place to get started. A little about me. I live in and am from Buffalo, NY, USA. I also lived in San Diego, CA, USA. I currently have 16 small parrots and one Min Pin named Zeus. I am a large advocate regarding parrots well being both in captivity and in the wild. My Wife and my Min Pin is 15 years old. It is hard to say that he has a few health issues going on. Most started last summer and to be honest I never thought he would still be here now. But he is a tough little guy and his love for his Momma keeps him going. He once 6 years ago got lost for 6 1/2 days in the wilderness (we live in the woods) due to chasing a cat and disappearing. In a miracle we found him safe and sound. Anyway, as of now he has had collapse-able trachea for a long time, has congestive heart failure, and had senior epilepsy. He is on 3 different meds and the seizures have not happened in quite a long time, thank God! The main reason I am here is that I know he will not be with us much longer. He is not suffering as I speak but I know this can come at any time. It will be very painful but we are trying to prepare. My Wife does not know I am here but when he is gone, and we are recovered I know we will need to have another dog or dogs in our lives. So, I am doing research now as I know how important this is for both pet and owner. I have settled on future Chi's and would like two siblings. My sister has two and my sister in law has one also. With our parrots and set up I think Chi's would be perfect and also the fact we do have experience with toy breeds helps. So, I am here to learn any advice you may have on this breed in all aspects including diet, what they like to eat, health issues/concerns and anything else you can throw at me. Thank you for having me and listening to me ramble on:confused5: I look forward to hearing and learning from your experiences;)

Welcome! I'm sorry your chi has so many health issues. I know how hard it is to see them suffer. I'm glad your planning for the future & you have definitely come to the right place for a wealth of information, helpful hints, food guides & much more. You might want to consider rescuing a chi from a shelter when you're ready. So many need homes.

Our dog is a Min Pin. Sorry for the confusion. In the future we have settled on a Chi or two. We will surely consider rescuing a chi from a shelter if it is possible. I am big on rescue and adoption. Out of curiosity I have looked and have seen none in our area but that does not mean in the future there won't be. We are very knowledgeable regarding dogs as we have had many in our lives but at the same time you can never learn enough and I know that Chi's do need some special care etc. My main concerns would be the best diet for them and nutrition along with health issue, dangers, personalities and more. I guess the whole package, haha. You can never learn enough and I want to be prepared as best I can. Thanks for the warm welcomes and yes, it has been hard with my dog but he has been pretty good for a while now. He is our family and it will hurt like heck when the time comes but he is with us now and we just enjoy one day at a time with him and cherish every moment.
