1. my chihuahua has one ear down and one ear up(stays up all the time)
is this good or bad?

2.I was told by a trainer to put my chihuahua in a small cage and bag his poop and leave him in there with the poop is that oh k ?
He said that he will not want to poop on the floor b/c he will know what will happen. but does this make me mean? or him hate me ?

3. How much is too much holding ?
While doing the training listed above is it oh k for him to keep sleeping with me like he has or is that like me giveing in to him ?

I have never heard of "bagging' the poop?? I would not do that! I would buy a small kennel and put him in that. Put a pee-pad in there with a small bed. Also his food and water. Take him out after eating and praise him everytime he goes. I held my Chihuahuas all the time?? still do. They are very social and are very intelligient dogs. ( I'm not sure about that trainer) you will find a lot od good advice on this Forum! :)

by the way welcome..

The ears will stand up in time. He is still very young. However some never do. They are still wonderful! :D
Hi there!

The one ear up/one ear down thing should be fine - Jamoka is probably teething or it may just not be up yet - don't worry, it should stand in time!

I have never heard of this type of method but to me, it does not sound good. I would instead encourage your dog to potty where you want him to by taking him often and praising/giving treats AS SOON AS he goes. Studies show that you need to give the treat or praise within 3 seconds of the behavior so they know what they are getting it for.

From a training standpoint, you probably should not let him sleep with you. You are the boss so you get the big comfy bed. If he sleeps up there too he may think he is the boss! But if you like having him sleep with you, then that's your choice. We let our two sleep with us sometimes on weekends and they know they can only sleep there if WE let them.

1. Both his ears most likely will come up by 6 mos. of age. They are kind of up and down until then.

2. That seems kind of strange to me. I crate trained mine but did not do that. :? I put them in their crate when I could not supervise them. I took them out after their meals and at least every couple of hours. I have 2 puppies that sleep in the crate in my room at night and I have an exercise pen for them for the day time. If your puppy sleeps in the crate at night, it will whine when it needs to go out. I do have 1 older chi that sleeps with us but I really don't recommend that.

3. I don't think they can get enough holding. :D

I hope that helps.
oh k thanks so much for all the help , i tried the hold poop thing and i feel REALLY bad and i thinking going to do the idea of just putting him in the creat with the pad. b/c after i do this and let him out he stays away from me! and it really hurts me but i'm trying to do right by this puppy and listening to ANYTHING ANYONE says.b/c hey i don't know everyhting .

the trainer said while i'll creat training don't let him sleep wit you and don't hold him . so i've been frigthing back the urge to hold him.and he loves to lick so much and i miss it so i think i'm going to take his advice but put my own ideas to it. (and of all of you chi parents ideas)

I agree with all the above !
Well I spoil mine, I spoiled my first one and now I'm spoiling this one but at the same time they know I'm "alpha" and that they have to mind. Marcus is completely housebroken to pee pads. He is a very good puppy even if he is a little hyper and he's held whenever he wants to be and he sleeps with us every night. To not hold a chi who wants and needs love is cruel. They are much happier and more secure when they know they are loved and that makes them easier to train.

Oh that would break my heart ....
well jamoka is spoiled but the guy tells me he's too spoiled.
i sleep with him and hold him when i'm on the comp. but when i yell "hey" he stops whatever he's doing wrong. but this pottie traning is kicking my butt! and i'm trying to be the "alpha" when it comes to traing too but it's hard but i'm in for the long haul!!!!!!!!!

They can never be to spoiled! Who ever is telling you all the bull you really need to not confide in them anymore! They are giving you horrible advise! Sounds like they think animals are just that and they don't need to be loved! :x
I can't imgagine anyone telling you not to hold a chi. They must not know chis very well. I just about always have a chi in my lap. The only time I put them in the exercise pen is when I am not here or I or someone else can not watch them. Like I said the 2 puppies do sleep in the crate at night. They seem to be very comfortable there and have been sleeping through the night for quite a while now. Of course it helps that they can snuggle together. :)
well with all this chi feed back i think i'm just going to look for anohter trainer ,and after i finished my last post i picked "moka" up and help him while i typed away on the comp. and he went to sleep like he loves to do.
THANK you so much ladys!!!!
I'm glad to hear you decided to pick up your baby, I'm sure that will make both of you feel alot better. And the more human contact the better if you ask me

I 100% agree!!!
i have never heard of those methods used in training before. the crate is supposed to be a good experience and should never be used as punishment! and not pet him or hold him. i don't know..... it's time to get a new trainer....

when i was going through trainers for my pit bull i came across 2 that stick in my head and i will never forget them. the one had a "switch" and said he's a pit bull he needs tough love..... the other guy said well some dog's learn with love and praise and some learn with pain!!!!! yeah i told them what i thought about them and i bought a book and kinda trained him at home (we got kicked out of 3 obedience classes! he was stubborn!)

go with your gut on this one, you miss the kissing and stuff, he does too!
 SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW EVERYONE SING WITH ME NOW
