Kind of looks like some mini pinscher! It looks kind of on the big size and with a longer snout. Usually their ears are bigger and or more pointy looking too. My love is the same colors and is by no means a small chihuahua so sometimes people think she has some mini pin in her!

Are you thinking of buying him? The advantage of an older pup is you can see what he will look like and have an idea what his temperament will be like. If you want to know for certain if he is purebred you can do a DNA test.

Have you met him yet, does it matter to you whether he is full bred chihuahua or not?

He could be part chihuahua, but I doubt if he is fully chihuahua

I'd say meet him, see if you like him and his personality and then decide, at the end of the day if he's an adorable little dog with an amazing loving personality maybe he's exactly what you are after.

One way or the other he sure is cute! I agree, go meet him. Papers only really matter if the price they are asking is high enough that he should be be purebred. If you look at some of my pictures of Lady (throughout the pics section of the board) she is a papered AKC purebred who is grand champion sired. As far as look goes, however, I am sure there are points about Lady that some might question. It is hard to know what purebred is anymore. She is a doll baby to me and that is all that matters.

I have a min pin and a chi... that one to me looks like a chinpin (chihuahua mixed with pincher) but he's still adorable! take a look at my thread on my furbabies on the pic thread you can see my pin and my chi. only my pin is a diff color... common min pin coloring is the black with tan as in the one you want to buy.

People will be interested in buying your friend's dog because he is lovable and attractive. Being purebred means nothing unless there is documentation to prove it. As I mentioned in other threads, we invested in DNA testing for our 'chihuahua mix' rescue dog via wisdompanel.com, and chi is the only breed that showed up, suggesting that he might well be purebred although at 13 lbs. much larger than most chis.

It has helped to know that he is predominantly chi, because it has suggested personality traits and behavior patterns - this forum has turned out to be in consequence a wonderful source of information and ideas. Except for some bragging rights, my wife and I no longer really care about Simcha's lineage.

I hope that the ultimate interest of your friend is in finding a good home for a good dog, and not in getting the best possible price by claiming pedigree.
