You have to be consistant with potty training. Ask him if he has to go out, then take him out and tell him to go pee pee. Be patient. Give him time. If you don't want him barking at strangers, let him get to know them. Let them give him treats. Tell him it's ok. He's doing what comes naturally thinking he's protecting you and his home.

You'll have to keep a close eye on him during potty training so he doesn't go anywhere other than where you want him to go. They always have to potty about 15 minutes after being fed. If you see him start to look for a place around the house, take him out immediately and most important, Don't forget to praise him when he goes where you want and does what you want. He's confused right now as to what's right.

I do all of this and he still doesnt ask to go out all the time. He gets taken on a hour walk after he eats so he always goes then. He is 1 now i thought he would of got over it by now but it seems he has just started to mark he hasnt done that before ? ... is it because he is getting older? Its starting to annoy me because im worried about taking him to peoples houses incase he wees!! I think i will have to go back to basics and take him out every ten minutes. Or will he just never do it

Ok, let's clarify here. Is he marking? Qr is he peeing in the house?

Has anything changed in his life? Any new people or pets come into the house?

Stella is a year and a half and sometimes still she has her moods where she doesn't let me know she needs to go out -- she just goes to the door and pees. It's very rare, though. Normally she will make some signal. I think she gets so involved in whatever it is she's doing that she doesn't realize she has to pee until it's too late. I'm really just thankful that she has the mind to not pee on the carpet! Haha

No other pets introduced? In the case of 'marking' you need to get a male belly band. He will learn quickly not to pee everywhere. BUT saying that, you CANNOT leave him to roam the house. He must be confined, so that you know where he is every moment. A playpen, crate etc is essential. Another option is to tether him to YOU. Where you go, he goes.
