We have a 5 month old chihuahua, he used to be really good at not barking. My husband works shift work and is sometimes away for a couple weeks at a time. This last time when he came back, our dog, Cooper, has been barking at him almost every time my husband walks in the room. I don't think it's because he doesn't remember him, maybe it's because Cooper thinks he should protect me??? I am not sure. If anyone has any suggestions on how to control this problem, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

not really Kemo does not stop barking at all not matter what I say but he is not a big barker. I know that Boogaloo uses a harness gizmo....I am drawing a blank right now as to what it is called. But it has helped her alot.

cant really help - maybe you could try the water squirter where you squirt him a little to shock him into stopping when he does it when you dont want and then he wont associate it with you punishing him but with the action ot getting wet which he wont like

hi and welcome by the way - why dont you drop by the newbie section and untroduce yourself :p

I hate to say this but there are things called bark collars but I haven't used them or heard anyone I know use them.

My mother and father grab the dogs mouth and close it.....hold it and say no.

That is when they bark at something or someone they shouldn't bark at.

I remember its called a gentle leader!!!!

Holding their mouth shut does not work for me either as Kemo will bark right thru my hands and his closed mouth LOL
Can he really bark even with his mouth closed? LOL That Kemo is a funny little character.

Yes I use the gentle leader and it works wonders!! I highly recommend one. My little boy is as quiet as a mouse when I want him to be now although he still does a short bark if someone knocks on the door, etc.

I would like to know too!! Bella barks at my boyfriend whenever he comes into any room we are in and we have been living together for over a year. My Crested does this too though, I think they are just being protective because they know and love him but I am the favorite. Wish they would stop tho as my boyf does not like this.
