Couple of things...
one, how much did everyone pay for a neuter?
my vet gave me an estimate for $270 for a neuter and a microchip (the chip is about $60)
sonny is 2 lbs and its gonna cost almost $300 for that?? wow!
also, im thinking maybe i won't microchip him...
is there anyone here that decided not to chip their dogs?

My vet charges $250 for a neuter and microchip...but I found a shelter that will do it neuter/microchip and the bloodwork for $112 which I think is reasonable...they can do the neuter and microchip for just $30, but it doesn't include bloodwork and I have to sign a release that they aren't responsible for any problems...so to have peace of mind I'm doing the $112 since Gizmo has had reactions to his shots I don't want to risk anything

I say yes to microchip because you never know.... :D

I paid about $120 to have Zeus neutered and he is microchipped. It's much easier to do when they are under anesthesia too. I have a good piece of mind with Zeus chipped. It's standard practice now for shelters and vets to scan a dog for possible chips.

I agree that it is best to do the microchipping while they are under anesthesia. The needle diameter is comparable to a ball point pen tip. They can do it with a local anesthetic but there is the risk of the pup moving during the injection and that can cause the chip to pop back out. Don't want to have to go through it more than once.

Im not sure how much Peanut's Microchip was but its was close to $50, def. no more than $70. I know here in Miami, if you buy a pet from a store or breeder you MUST get it microchipped or they will not give it to you. So for me there was no other choice, although I would have done it anyway! :D I think you should microchip, and I think by the 8th week and up you can microchip because thats around the age I got Peanut and the youngest that dogs can be sold legally before being taken away from their mother (this is all how it is in Miami of course, Im sure it might and can be different in other places).
