Long story ... I got a call from the man that had both of Gidgets parents. Several months ago I went after Gizmo her dad and he has adjusted nicely and what I thought would be a short stay here he is now a member of the family. George the man that had him and her mom Sophie asked me if I wanted Sophie because he was rehoming all the others now. He had remarried and he was rehoming his Rat Terrier, Chi/mix (huge) and Sophie as well as his wifes Shih-tzu/Chi mix. They are all obese. Apparently the new wife feeds table scraps and treats only and the dogs do not even know how to eat or want dog food anymore. She did not want to give Wally up and she cried and broke my heart. I went to get all of them because they were giving them away free and it always worries me where they will end up and these are sweet dogs All have been passed around multiple times :-( So I go and pick them all up and Hubby had already put his foot down telling me no more we have too many. So on way to take them to a rescue friend of mine he asks me what we are going to do with Sophie and I said what do you think? He said I think we should take her home with us. I said to keep? And he said "I cannot believe I am about to say this but yes. LOL! So my hubby that was a cat person when I met him that didnt really care for dogs especially toy breeds is now a Chihuahua man through and through :D Do I think we need another, no not really but just like Gizmo she is family and they have been passed around so much. So if all goes well she is a permanent family member. I have 5 toy breeds now and should be getting another Dane to show in the Summer... WOW

We both agree that if she would have stayed with them much longer she would have a heart attack. She was half this size when I picked up Gizmo several months ago. She can hardly breathe and struggles to lay down and get up. She resembles a tiny pot bellied pig. She is pitiful. :-(

Sophie that we have nicknamed Piggy

I really enjoyed reading this Post and seeing the pictures, such a lovely story and Sophie is in the right hands now - I know you have to go easy on an overweight dog but bet you will have a little lean Huahua in no time! I really wanted to adopt my Huskies' parents when the breeder was rehoming them but I could not afford it financially ... you're so so lucky to have the little family together! :love5: x x x

Thanks everyone. Just trying to get her to eat healthy here meaning ANYTHING right now is a task but I am sure it is still her nerves and when she gets hungry enough she will eat. I got her Sat evening so she has really only spent one full day here. She is learning our rules here. I hate the whining and she likes to whine when someone is home and not with her so we need to nip that in the bud. And we are still teaching Trinket that she is not supposed to bark in the house (She is doing pretty good but she IS a Terrier) so I am hoping Sophie does not feed off her or they feed off each other. I have been pretty blessed so far with a quiet Chihuahua home as none of my guys have ever been barkers. I hope I can keep it that way as hubby sleeps days and works nights

I just weighed Sophie and she weighs 7.5 lbs which would not be that big of a deal except for she should be 3 to 3.5. She is around the same size and a bit shorter in length and same build as Gizmo. Her back has so much fat she would be probably a tad shorter in height too. He is 3.5 lbs. and when I got Gidget and they were there I remember that guy telling me she was 3 lbs. I am shocked. Bless her heart :-(

She is pretty. It is sad that her owners let her get so overweight. It is a good thing she has you now. I am sure she will be in tip top shape in no time. Just take it slow 😊

Congratulations on your new addition! Way to go hubby for suggesting you keep her! 7.5lbs really isn't very big at all but I can clearly see she meant to be a much smaller girl. Good luck on your journey, I'm sure she will be settled in in no time!!
