Well, after an 8 hour flight, 2 hour drive, here is my new chihuahua Majito Bandito. He is slowly warming up to me. He is 9 months old and was flown to Pa from Oregon. He is soo quiet and loves to be held and cuddled! He wasn't eating much at first and his last owner suggested I feed him a bit of wet food to get him going. The only thing is now he only wants to eat wet food! Any suggestions? How do I get him used to a leash. I want to purhcase a harness but I am unsure as to what size. He is 3lbs. Lastly, he has terrible breath. Gonna have the vet check his teeth. Is he too young to have a tooth problem? Thanks for answering all my questions.

First off let me say
to the forum. Your new puppy is a very handsome little man. I have a major soft spot for Fawn/White Chis. As for the food I would mix a small amount of dry puppy food with his wet food. It's good for his teeth and contains many of the nutrients puppies need. For brand suggestions I would browse through the forum for suggestions. As for the harness I highly recommend puppias. They are very comfy for doggies and they don't not choke or pull on their necks or throats. Xs would probably fit well since he is only 3lbs. There are lots of pics of pups and their puppias on this forum that I am sure you will enjoy looking at. As for bad teeth that can happen early on if the pups dietary needs are not being met properly. A vet can clean the teeth, but if they are in bad shape he might extract any bad ones so the adult teeth come in properly which begins as early as 4-6 months. Normally, though baby teeth (if necessary) are removed at the time of the pup being fixed if you opt to do that.

He's a beauty, Give him plenty of chews, that will help with his teeth, none of mine will let me brush their teeth, so I give them plenty of chews and bones, always supervise when you give them.

He is handsome!! Congratulations! And welcome! I soak Roxy's dry food in water for a little bit. It's still kind of hard, but it's kind of soft as well. This is easier for her, as it takes her a long time to chew every piece of food. She sometimes gets food called ZiwiPeak (if you do a search on our forum, you'll find a lot of information about this). It's like jerky, so it's neither hard or soft. It's expensive, but this may be an option for you. As for getting him used to a leash... it will just come with time. Start now though, as he's already 9 months. He'll get used to it! :) There are many different types of harnesses. The puppia mentioned above is great. A lot of people here like those ones. You could even just take him to a pet store and try it on him there. You could even do a search for harnesses on our forum and you'll find a lot of different opinions and options for those as well. For his stinky breath... I agree with what was already said! Chews will help. Even brushing his teeth will be a good idea! :hello1:

Go to the 'small animal section' of the pet store. They have ferret harness'es for alot less! A 'small' would easily fit a 3# chihuahua. Also they have carriers for ferrets they my dogs LOVE. One is 5+years old, the other one 3+years old. Good luck with your pup. Sue
