Hi,

I need advice!
In the city near me where I attend University, I've found a smoothcoat breeder! It's a strange story really, at the start of the year I was waiting on a bus out to my dance class and I saw this woman walking down the street with two beautiful apple-headed cream smoothcoat girls. I was too shy to confront her and ask to see them, but since then I got hooked on the idea of getting a Chi! I just fell in love with them straight away after seeing them in the flesh.

So anyway, last weekend I was at a party and an old school friend was asking about Lexi. She said she knew a lady in the city who's female had just been bred with a stud and was pregnant with her first litter. I asked her where the lady lived and it turns out it's that same lady that is responsible for me having my Lexi!!

She said she'd pass my number on to her, but I never got my hopes up. Anyway, the other day, the old school friend told me that the lady has my number safe and will call me up for a visit once the puppies are born! That's not all though, she says that it's likely she'll get a cream smoothcoat girl and that if so then she's mine if I want her

I go back to Uni for my final year in late september so I wouldn't be around most of the day until xmas. I think it'd be ok though since I got Lexi knowing that at least my Dad would always be around when I'm not there.
AHHHH!!! Why now?!! I have wanted another girl (cream too!) since I brought Lexi home, I think she'd really benefit having a sister.
What do you guys think? It seems like fate in a way - the lady is right within driving distance, has beautiful breed standard Chi's......hopefully the price will be right too since it's her first litter. I could always ask to go on a waiting list I suppose.

i think if u really want another chi baby you should get one! dont you finish early some days and have some days off whilst at uni anyway - i know i certainly do and you can go home and see your new pup and im sure your dad watch it will your away to uni.

Then at least whenever you begin you career she wld have grown up with a playmate to keep her company whilst your out at work!

I get Wednesday afternoons off which is good. 9-5 the rest of the working week. My dad loves Lexi to bits so I know they'd be fine and get lots of attention! Even if I decide against getting another in the next month or so, I know that when I see them i'll just cave in lol!
I'll need to put blinkers on :D

I think you should really consider it :) I had a similar thing happen when I got Stitch and then was told Nemo's breeder is definately having puppies :pI just said yes to both it should be ok well I'm hoping anyway Stitch will be just over 5 months when I get the other chi so hopefully he'll be a good big brother. Everything happens for a reason and if there is the puppy you always wanted around and u can work it so they're cared for when your at uni then u should do it.

Nemochi, you must be so excited about having two :)
When do you pick up Stitch?

You're right, I too believe things happen for a reason, I will wait and see what the litter is like and think about it if there is a little girl. It would be so lovely to have another Chi. I can't wait to get the phonecall, I have no idea when they're due so it'll be a surprise :)

Thanks for the replies, I needed others' opinions on it as I'm terrible at making decisions right away! I always weigh up the pro's and con's of everything and then decide.
Pro's definitely outweigh the con's here

Wow stich has blue eyes, soooo cool! He's too cute!

I think if you're having doubts to think carefully dont jump into anything to quickly and im sure you'll come to the right decision whether it be having the pup or not in the end

Aww I bet it's great having more than one! I love Lexi to bits so I know having another wouldn't mean less love for her. I think she would also benefit having a sister around for dog socialisation. She's fine with dogs, but last night I took her to see my friends young manchester terrier and the dog was right in her face and all exciteable which made her a bit snarly. She doesn't mind being around other dogs so long as they don't get right in her face and bother her lol. Poor thing!

Will keep you guys posted anyway, and hopefully see the litter soon. x

I get Stitch on the 25th August :) and I cant wait he's just so gorgeous and my next pup is due Oct 7th am hoping for a girl gonna call her Ariel :p if she only has boys tho at the moment I think we're gonna be unoriginal and call him Bambi cos Nemo used to be called little Bambi when he slept and also cos this one will always be my little baby :). Once the pups are born I'll make sure I take loads of photos also will make sure I take some of Alfie for everyone to see thats Nemo's bro :) but knowing me with names it'll change the day I see the puppy lol

I say go for it, especially if you've been looking for another chi lately.

You may want to consider these things first though: can you afford the vet bills for another dog, do you have enough room for another dog, do you have time to train another dog and is your current dog socialized to accept another pup.

I'm not trying to discourage you - just give you something to consider. Not that you haven't considered that stuff in the first place; those are the top four things I always think about when I see a puppy (hi Boomer!) that I would love to have in my home. :)

Good luck!!

Those four things are very important to consider so thanks! :)
I could afford two, and I've definitely got the room! Lexi regularly meets dogs that are a lot bigger, wants to play so badly then realises that they're too big and heavy so I think she'd love a little squirt to pick on ;) jk.

I think i'll wait and see what the litter is like before I dig out my cheque book, if I decide to wait I'll at least go on her waiting list.

I feel so much better now i've discussed this! :D
