Jazzy Has Diarrhea-Update Added

Jazzy has had a couple of bouts of diarrhea in the past, but usually only lasts for a few hours. This time, she has had it since around 5 am this morning, and I am getting concerned.

At first, her stools were just a little loose, but since just before noon today, they have been very watery. I haven't seen any blood in her stool though, so that is a good thing.

I don't think it was something she ate, as she hasn't had any changes to her diet and I haven't given her any people food other than a few bites of cheese last night. She hasn't eaten anything at all today, but she is drinking plenty of water, so maybe she won't get dehydrated. Aside from the diarrhea, she doesn't really seem to feel bad. She has just slept a lot today.

I did called my vet's office, and the vet called back a short while ago and said if she wasn't better by in the morning I should bring her in.

Thank goodness, she will still use the puppy pads - we've gone through a half package of those today. Bless her heart, she makes it to the puppy pad in time, and hasn't had an accident on the carpet yet.

Has anyone else had anything similar to this recently? This is the first time since I've had her that she has really had anything wrong, and it's so scary. :(

Fri - 8/5 - UPDATE.
Well, we were up and down all night last night, but by 9 a.m. this morning she seemed to be a little better. She ate a few bites of chicken and some plain yogurt. She still has some diarrhea, but her stools are getting a little firmer and she isn't going so often. She's been playing with her toys this afternoon, and we even played tug of war for a little while.

I did manage to get some more pepto into her earlier today - but boy, she hates that stuff! She was not a happy camper with mommy. My vet called me this morning to check on her, which I really appreciated. Nice to know your vet cares enough to follow up. She and her husband are both vets, and we are members of the same church-they are just great people and I'm extremely fortunate to have them as Jasmine's vets.

Just wanted to give you all an update. Thanks so much for your support. It means a lot to know I can come on this site and get advice and support. I think the worst is behind us now, thank heavens.

I had the same thing happen to my bella. A week after i brought my second chi pup home bella started getting diahrea. The new pup had coccidia and roundworm so i was sure that bella had contracted something. It went on for a couple of days so i started giving her diahrea medicine that the doc gave me for the little one. I took a fecal in and it came back negative and she is fine now but i dunno what it was, i am just glad its over! Maybe try feeding her some chicken and rice? Or get some diahrea meds from the vet, its works okay. But the dogs hate the taste more than anything and will do anything to get away from it. My little has thrown up as soon as i touches her tongue a couple times. I hope everything is ok! Keep us updated!
Lily had something like that just a few weeks ago. She pooped and pooped, maybe 6 or 7 times overnight. Then she threw up twice. I couldn't get her to drink water but she drank my salt free chicken broth so I felt good about that. She was perfectly fine the next day, just a bit tired. I think she must've picked up one of those stomach bugs from goodness knows where.

I hope Jazzy's feeling better tonight. It's awful to see them sick. Glad she's been using her pads though... makes it a bit easier on mommy. Keep us posted. :)
Thanks folks. When my children were younger, and would get sick, I was normally calm and collected and didn't panic. But when Jazzy is not feeling well, I get panicky. I guess partly because she can't talk to let me know what's wrong. It's just scary.

She hasn't had any diarrhea now in almost 2 hours, which is the longest period all day, so maybe it's about run its' course. I fixed her some boiled chicken but she's just not interested in food today.

Keeping fingers and paws crossed here.....I'll keep you posted.
make sure you give her some nutrical if she's not eating... if she doesnt want to eat it put some on the roof of her mouth...
OmaKitty just had the same thing. Barf, poop, barf, poop... it lasted almost a full week. But she's better now ... I think she just got a tummy bug.

You can give your guy Pepto Bismol for his tummy, too. My vet recommended 2 teaspoons for Cooper, so you'd probably be looking at a 1/2 - 1 teaspoon for your little guy. (Coop's 10 lbs - I'm guessing yours is under 5.)
Well, she just had another bout with the diarrhea, so guess we aren't out of the woods just yet. She hasn't thrown up yet - so far just the diarrhea.

I did finally get her to eat just a few bites of boiled chicken breast that I hand fed to her, and she is drinking plenty of water. The vet did say I could give her between 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of pepto. I tried that, but not sure how much actually went into her tummy. Think most of it ended up on her face and my shirt. Think I will still try to get some nutrical down her, even though she did eat a few bites of chicken. It sure won't hurt, and I don't want to risk her blood sugar taking a nosedive.

I have a feeling we won't be getting much sleep tonight - oh well, I have a new book I can start on. :D
Poor Jazzy. :(

Back when Lily was having a lot of tummy problems - before we figured out her digestive system was super sensitive to fatty foods - there were many days she went off to daycare with pink smeared all over her chin. She was well acquainted with Pepto.

I also got the vet to prescribe some Tagamet and I had a local pharmacy give it a chicken flavor to make it a bit more palatable. Anything for our babies. :)
How is Jazzy feeling now? Marcus is worried about his dance partner and it is so scary to have them not feel good.
Minx has had diarrhea a couple of times for no more than a day. Once it was after I gave her peanut butter in a little kong thingy and another time I was in and out of bed several times during the night changing puppy pads. She'd mess on up to three at once but both times she came right fortunately. I didn't feed her anything, just made sure she was drinking water and as I said it was for less than 24 hours. I hope Jasmine recovers quickly from it.
