I would love another chi anyway, but just rembering my other dogs over the years and the jealousy with the cuddles and so forth. What are your experiances with this,1 or 2?

My older Chi Zoe is jealous of Holly. They do not snuggle or sleep together but they are not going at it all the time either. They never fight though. Zoe just growls when Holly gets to close to her. I was hoping after almost 7 months that they would have some bond but nothing yet.

It is said Chi's are one of the very few breeds who thrive in a pack of their own breed and love the company of their own.

I too am used to large dogs, but Chi's are completely different with zero aggro towards their own but plenty towards other breeds - I have 3 Chis's and they're the best of buddies.

There is never any show of jealousy or pushing each other out of the way to get to me, they each wait their turn patiently and only ever approach, get on the bed, furniture etc. when invited. There's not been a snap, snarl, growl or fight over food, toys, me or anything, they really are little angels, soon to be reinforced even more by their imminent desexing.

I have two, soon to have 3 chi's. Yes they are jealous of both being with me in my recliner. I soon taught them that growling at each other will bring both of them to the floor. They caught on quickly. Now there is a little growl, and all I have to say is 'knock it off' and they quit. I get up, and fix their meals, give it to them, walk the sheltie in the back yard (no fence--not allowed.). I have a slicker 'baby' brush near my reclincer, so I brush whenever. Sue

I have 16 dogs, 11 of whom are chis with the others being either mixes with chis or other breeds entirely. The chis get along pretty well with each other. Pepe is a bit aggressive with Chumley, my maybe Basenji mix, and my daughter's lap/pit mix, which is kinda dumb, Bouncer weighs 60 pounds to his 4 pounds and change. The chis share beds and crates. There is a bit of jealousy over being on my lap with Pepper and Billy, but if after one warning they are still growling, they get put down. There is a squabble or two over toys once and a great while but they work it out themselves. I love having my pack, they are so much fun and keep each other entertained for hours. There's always someone to play with.

I have one dog, Delilah, that after been here almost two years has made exactly one friend, Twiggy. All the others she growls at and lets them know to leave her alone. It may just be Zoe's tempermant, she may just be a loner dog.

You have 16 dogs - I'm speechless!!! I presume you have to keep them all inside because you don't have fencing too - how on earth do you manage with waste disposal? Oh I have so many questions, but my head is still spinning from the vision of 16 dogs in a house!

I have fencing. I keep them inside beacuse they are my dogs and I never understood why anyone would get a dog and make them stay outside all the time. I have chis, they dont poo that much, I feed a higher quality food that they use more efficently and so less is pood out. I have a plastic bag in a holder, it takes about 4 days to fill it, then it goes in the trash can. And that 16 dogs doesn't count the 4 puppies that are ready to be adopted as soon as I have a moment to take a breath get to it and my daughter's two dogs.

Doh, silly me - I had your post confused with SusanDavis' where she said they had no fencing.

Even contained in a yard, I can't imagine that many dogs just hurtling around, I really can't - certainly not something you would ever see over here in a private suburban house, unless it was on The News.

How many gallons of Febreze do you go through a month - lol, every time I open a cupboard there's a pack staring at me!

I got ninja about a year after baby and they honestly don't really care about each other baby would be happy as an only child but she does often play around with ninja she will not let him cuddle with her or sit right beside her unless they're eating or going for a walk lol prada came about a year after ninja and she was their puppy baby could care less about her ninja and prada were best friends they always were together playing around cuddling and kissing each other and then beau came 3 ish years later and him and prada are the best of friends I think it really depends on the personality when I'm petting ninja baby pushes him out of the way and they keep pushing each other trying to get my attention instead of the other they have in the past got in some full on dog fights that had to be broken up but they're getting better finally after 5 years almost together lol. Has your chi been around other dogs? You might be able to tell if he's interacting with other dogs

I got my 2nd when my first was only 16 weeks old and I've never had any jealousy between the two. They are completely inseperable and are always either playing or snuggling together - it's pretty darn adorable! Only issue I ever have is that sometimes I will have Chloe on my knee and Axle will come and sit right on top of her and step on her face which makes her growl but as soon as I reposition them so they both fit they will snuggle together and groom eachother.

Getting a 2nd when your first is a bit older should only be an issue for the first couple of weeks. Chi's genuinely love the company of their own breed and will bond in a short amount of time under goood supervision. I would definitely look at getting a girl to make the transition easier, less chance of territorial issues.

You're in NSW right? If you're looking straight away there is a really beautiful cream girl for sale from an excellent kennel in Sydney. If you are interested I can pm you the link.

Thanks Sarah, i would get a female,i should have said before ,i was thinking of maybe getting 1 that needs rehoming, from a shelter ,like dogs that are being surrendered.I would get a female, and the dog would proberly already b desexed.I know this could also mean prblems. On the other hand alot of dogs are rehomed because of other reasons, does not mean there,s anything wrong with the dog.I like that these organizations go to alot of trouble to find out exactly what the surrenderd dog likes and dislikes, if they like other dogs or not .That sort of thing.I,m on the central coast nsw i will c if theres a chi addoption place around me or somewhere close, thanks everonefor input here.-janet.

Actually there is a good kennel in NSW that's re-homing ex breeding and show stock that you could check out. They're in the Newcastle area I think. I'm not sure you would have much luck finding a Chi from a shelter, they just don't seem to end up in shelters here in Aus, I guess because they're not so common and quite expensive. The ex show and breeding chi's are free to a good home and are raised in a home environment so there may be less chance of behavioural issues. I was looking at this option for my mum but then she went and bought an ill bred maltese x poodle from a backyard breeder (I can only shake my head really).

Thanks Sarah, i will try and find the place your talking about definantley. You know i have seen chi,s even on Gumtree,a lady had 2 chi,s she was trying to rehome, they do pop up.There,s quite a few dogs on gumtree at times. My charchi looks like your babylove.I,m not sure about his weight though he,s 4 kilo,s and he,s going on 8 mths old, what do your dogs weigh?Charchi is all chi, but when i read on line what everyone elses chi,s weigh,, charchi sounds really heavy.

The place is Kedar Manoah Chihuahuas, you can just google them or go through dogzonline. They are only charging desexing costs for the dogs. I did see one or two on gumtree actually butthey were all puppies from oops litters so i wasn't too keen.

Charchi does look a bit like my Axle. Ax is 9 months and is about 2.2kg. He's quite a petite little man so I'm trying to keep him on the leaner side to avoid stress on his joints, he has tiny little stick legs not much thicker than my index finger! Chloe is 7 months and is only 1.8kg and is looking a bit thin at the moment so I'm trying to feed her up a bit. They're siblings (same dad) so they should end up about the same weight I'm thinking. From your pics Charchi doesn't look overweight. 4kg is still tiny, as long as his frame can carry the weight he should be fine, check to see if you can feel his ribs when you lightly press over the area.

Zoey turned 4 in Feb and I just brought Chloe home 2 weeks ago. They get along great and play together but not sleeping together yet as Chloe sleeps in her x pen and Zoey sleeps with us. When she gets older and can hold it through the night she will be in our bed to I'm sure. They have both slept in my lap together. They both want what the other has, even if it's the very same chewie they want each others but I have never seen aggression. Zoey used to wear us out at night wanting to play ball but now she plays with Chloe and come bedtime she is tired. Chloe likes to go to bed at 830 she climbs in her kennel to go to sleep.

I read this and broke out laughing. This sounds like Daisy and Rocki. Rocki still thinks shes a lap dog and Daisy will sit on her. Or I have two dogs licking me to wetness. I just think its funny how thy fight over the lap when Rocki cant fully sit in it like she wants. While Daisy thinks shes as big as Rocki.
