Hello all. I have 8 months long coat chi named Boney. I just got him from my friend. I need to ask a few questions about his foods
Well since he lives with me a week ago, I provide him Astor (dry) for his foods. He's seems doesnt really like it. So I gave him dry Purina Alpo 2in1 and he's really like it (for today tho, I dont know tomorrow if he's still like it:p) I know Alpo 2in1 is good for treats. But Do you guys think Purina Alpo 2in1 is good for Boney's daily foods? And if its not. What should I give for my Boney?

Please help me by answer my question :D

thaaaaaaanks :toothy8::toothy8::coolwink:

Neither of those foods are good quality, I would definitely switch to something else. They are full of junk and byproducts your dog does not need. I would suggest going to dogfoodadvisor.com and picking a food that is at least 4 stars.

If you are looking for kibble, I would recommend either Acana or Fromm. They are both high-quality foods.

I agree with Missy. Neither of those foods are good choices, in my opinion. They both contain ingredients that are known to be common dog allergies and they also have too many fillers.

Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings is a good place to look up potential foods. You want a food that is AT LEAST four stars, five or six stars would be best.

From personal experience and what I have learned on CP I would recommend Blue Buffalo (BB Wilderness is grain-free, the regular has high quality grains, and BB Freedom is low allergen limited ingredient), Acana (Pacifica is specifically recommended. Wild Prairie, Ranchlands are other types that are also grain free. Acana does sell some foods that have grain, though so be careful.), Fromm (grain free variety- Four star is recommended), or Orijen (this food can often be too rich for little Chis due to high protein).

Orijen and BB can usually be found and mainstream pet stores, such as Petco. Acana and Fromm are usually found at specialty pet shops or you can get good deals online. If you are outside of the US, there may be additional local foods that are high quality. Acana, Orijen and Fromm are manufactured in Canada and BB is a US company.

Hello neighbour Evan, & welcome. Being that you are in Jakarta I feel you'll probably be limited to brands of good food. In USA, UK & Australia, we have a rule, "If you can buy it in a supermarket, it's crap and don't feed it to our dogs!"

There will not be as much as a demand for high quality/high priced food in Indonesia and, if you an find it in the boutique stores, it's going to cost a lot more. Basically you want to avoid any dry feed that has grain in it as they merely use this to bulk the feed up to bag weight - does not good for the dog whatsoever and can in fact even cause problems.

What about raw meat, are you able to consistently source raw meat for you dog, but a variety of types? If you are able to feed raw, it is very healthy but you must always worm regularly.

Can you get to a boutique pet store and let us know the brands that are available and we can let you know which is best?

Many Chi's will also enjoy eating raw carrot, beans and fruits - mine hate them all :(

Hey there thanks for the reply. And yes a few friends told me to get Acana for my baby chi. But which one? Grasslands Dog Grain-Free?

Yes, Australia and have been to Bali/Jakarta a couple of times.

Your English is brilliant, way better than some who have it as their mother tongue ime!

Re Fruit - I can't tell you because my 3 only eat anything because if they don't they'll die. They seriously don't get excited about any food whatsoever, nothing puts a skip in their step & they get the very best of the best. I've tried mine with Papaya, Banana, pineapple, apples & pears (no seeds, they contain arsenic), raw carrot, beans, broccoli. Last night for the first time one of them enjoyed a warm lightly cooked bean from my plate.

Scrambled eggs are good for a treat, tablets can be hidden in lump of cheese, natural greek yoghurt is great for upset tummies & to keep their gut flora healthy, oily fish (salmon, tinned sardines, tuna) or fish oil and RAW CHICKEN, bones and all. I guess you know never to feed any dog a cooked bone of any kind whatsoever? They will splinter, puncture the bowel & give them peritonitis (Sp?) which is basically a slow and painful death.

If I was you, I'd try to feed as much raw as I could in conjunction with your Arcana or Orijen, as well as bones that he can eat & digest as well as recreational chewing bones (the latter daily if possible). I'm guessing beef or pork will be left out depending on which path you tread, but basically any raw meat from any animal (including liver & kidney) is all good stuff. Just leave those Sun Bears alone, giggle :p Or is that Manila, got my visits confused now.

See if you can get ZiwiPeak (it's made in New Zealand) over there, it's basically dehydrated raw meat and you only need the smallest amount. It's expensive, but every mouthful is 100% goodness with no added crap like tomato soup leftovers, husk of rye, heart of wheat, eye of corn, tons of tapioca bla bla bla.
