He is on wellness super5mix now (he was skinny prior to this though!). LaLa eats a hint over 1/4cup and has the typical chi frame, thick chest, really solid, short little legs haha..
Lucky eats a little under 1/2cup, and you can feel all of his bones, it seems as if he does not have the typical muscular build that chihuahuas have. His body shape is completely different from LaLa's though, he is tall and has long scrawny legs, we call him a little deer! it's exactly what he looks like..
He has no other symptoms, I mean, he eats all of his food, drinks his water, pees & poos regularly, plays! He isn't losing weight, i don't think, but he is SO thin, i can't imagine feeding him more then 1/2 a cup of holistic food either.

Any advice?

the "deer" type chihuahuas tend to be taller and skinnier than their apple counter parts!
id have your vet check him over (stool sample too) and see what they think. he might just be a slim chihuahua...unless your vet thinks hes too skinny, i wouldnt worry.

vixies a typically stocky chi, dodgers skinny compared! but neither are unhealthy.
general rule of thumb is you should be able to feel the ribcage but not realy see it.

Is there a chance Lucky has got worms ? You don't say how old he is, if he is young he could just be growing and running all his food off, some dogs can stay pitifully thin when young no matter how much they eat some not filling out untill they are over 2 years of age, like people dogs grow at different rates so long as you are sure there is nothing physically wrong with him you will just have to grin and bear it untill he fills out naturally with age. Just as a note though if he is older get a good check over at your vet it may be some underlying cause. x x

Bella hasn't got a muscular build at all & I'm always saying she's anorexic. She feels so light compared to Mia & Poco & I rarely see her eat but she acts fine she pees & poops fine. She lost a pound in the summer from an illness & never gained it back. Honestly your vet can tell you what they think I personally think it's just their build.

Please, please take him to the VET. Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry??? He may have heart worm. Wouldn't you rather have the peace of mind that your baby is healthy? Why take the chance? Try free feeding him also.

yeah, he will go to the vet !

He is 1 years old, he isn't a "deer head" chihuahua though, he has an apple head :) just a deer body LOL.

He is just much more frail then lala, and i highly doubt he has worms, as he is vaccinated and does not go into random yards etc, and our yard is fenced in. I know kidney failure is a sign of weight loss, and he isnt losing weight, just thin, and he has ALWAYS been scrawny.

Thanks for all of your thoughts!

oh and we were free feeding, but when we made the switch to wellness, they loved the food so much they were finishing bowls of food in 30minutes !

Mylo hardly eats his food, he picks at it throughout the day, only when we hav a roast and i put some gravy on his dried does he ever finish his bowl right off, he has always been like this, ever since i got him. He is tall and lanky and you can feel he is a slim dog, when you smooth him, but thats just him!!

thats what i was thinking, a little after 3-4mo's when he started to look less puppyish he just got really lanky, everyone said he'd grow out of it, he didn't haha <3 we love him that way though. it just worries me sometime, bc i always had pets growing up, but they werent "mine". So, if one of them threw up, or was looking a little sick i never thought much of it, and they all lived to be reallly old & healthy, but now that i have my own dogs EVERYTHING paranoys me!

I'm the same way when it comes to my girls also. My mom is always telling to wait before running to the vet but I can't stand the thought of my chi's being sick or injured.

BlackJack is only 3 and a half pounds and he is thin. My vet says it isn't a problem. he has been checked out and is perfect. Personally, i rather have thing then overweight, sometimes it is a lot harder to get pounds off (my MIL is going through that right now with her overweight dog)
