We have had Jasper about 2 weeks now and just adore him. But I am questioning about his previous owners...... (other then the fact I'm almost positive he was abused)They said he is micro chipped BUT forgot the papers when I met to pick him up.. I've been texting them and she says she cant find them.. I am thinking about trying to get her to meet me where she got the microchip implanted at and have it registered under my name. I am just worried that she wont end up meeting me or something stupid like shes been doing for the past week. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've never dealt with microchips so I have no idea how it works exactly but I'm assuming I cant just go there myself anf have it put in my name, for all they know I could have stolen him I guess(Saving all the text messages to be on the safe side :/.. One example of craigslist..)

As far as I know, you'll need the username and password to login to the microchip's website to change the information. Hopefully someone else will have had experience with this and chime in. If you're worried about him being stolen, take him to the vet and have them scan the chip. Who knows, maybe he doesn't have a chip at all? When you know the microchip company, you could check their website, or try calling them.

Can you take him to a Vet or shelter and have them run the microchip to find out the company then call the company and explain the situation to them?

hmmmm im not sure about microchips! pippi has one and tillie will but i think if you go where it was done and explain with evidence then it should be fine x

I would think that if you can take him to the vet and have the chip scanned to find out the name of the company you shouldn't have a problem changing the information. Its not like he's been reported lost or stolen. I would just tell them that the previous owner lost the papers and you need to reregister him. Or maybe if the previous owner knows the user name and password for the company she can just give you that and you can change the information yourself.

Yes take him to a vet and have him scanned. Could possibly not even be chipped. You could then get the info and call and explain as long as he does not have a missing or lost status posted.

There is a form at Home Again for owner transfer. I think it details what you have to do. It didn't sound complicated even if you don't have information from the previous owner.
