Here are some pictures of my little man. He is now 1lb 6 oz @ 16 weeks. He only gained an ounce since his 14 week vet visit. I asked the vet should I be worried, he is eating good and very lively. He would like to see him put on some more weight. He said he is very healthy other wise. We go back in 2 weeks.

That stripe is just the cutest. He does look " all head" with a teeny wee body....he will grow yet. Did you talk to the vet about what to feed him ? He is adorable.

Thank you so much! Yes we talked about his eating, he suggested a good dry mix mixed with canned formulated for puppies to encourage him to eat more. He eats a lot, at least 6 times a day. I don't know how we can get him to eat more. He also suggested a supplement like nutrical (which he loves and gets every day). He is a very busy guy, not wanting to stop playing long enough to rest. Guess his metabolism is really high.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I used to free feed Rico his original kibble (RC), he came from the breeder on that..or almost..he was getting a mix of baby food, canned food , kibble and Nutra-Cal puppy. Once he started on kibble he was free fed. When I switched him over to orijen kibble he started eating like no tomorrow...no more free feeding for him. It took a little while but he eventually developed quite an appetite.

I'd keep up that Nutra Cal because he is so small. What a cutie pup !!

Thank you every one, where can I find orijen kibble? I have not heard of it before.

He is a gorgeous little dog :)

Have a look at the weight chart on this thread
http://www.chihuahua-people.com/showthread.php?t=3478
It will show you what you can expect your dog to put on in weight each week, he should be putting on about 1oz per week.

My little girl is just about 2lbs now, I feed her three times a day and always leave food out for her at night. She averages a weight gain of about an oz a week.

Orijen is very good, but be sure to change very slowly, because the last thing he needs is to get an upset tummy and lose a bit of weight from that.

What a little sweetie pie! He is a gorgeous boy. Orijen is a great food. It can be difficult to find in the US though. I know many people have been able to either find it at their local natural pet food store or order it from amazon.com. Good luck!

Thank you so much. He has gained an average of an oz a week so that is good. The vet says he is very healthy. I had no idea he was a small Chi when I got him. I just met him and fell in love. He is my first Chi baby as my other chi was full grown when I got her, she was 4 lbs. The more I read the more I realize how small he is. That's okay. He is in good hands. I just want to be sure the food I give him will help him to grow to the best of his ability. He eats very well.

Sounds like he is doing great and growing to his weight. He will always be a littlely.

One thing I find useful if I want to feed up the pups a little is to give them a little scrambled egg in with their food - they love it, particularly on cold mornings as it is nice and warm. They really scoff down their food with the egg in it!

I had forgotten about the egg. I used to give my dogs eggs years ago. I can't remember why I stopped. Thanks. :hello1:
