Monkey has been a wonder of a puppy and is only 5 months old (Is this a reason ?). He is well trained so far, we have a routine and is taken out several times an evening where he goes to toilet - each time being praised with treats for doing so - so generally all round good, however lately we have found that he has fouled his bed when we come down in the morning. A wee is present on his toilet matt (which we have for his assumed weak bladder) and a poo in his basket, it's so frustrating ! Also we have found that he has eaten some !

Can anyone help or offer some information ?

I thought the eating it might be because he was hungrey but we feed him a mixtrue of wet and dry food during the morning and evening and some dry at lunch time. such a frustrastion ! Also everything I've read says that Chi don't foul their beds too so I don't know what's going on. Hope I can get some help.

:wink: Maybe he's teething and/or bored? When they are teething they tend to act a little strange and if that was the case maybe you should give him something soft to chew so that he doesn't try to chew something else..if is because he's bored, does he get all the excercise he needs? do you guys play a lot? Sometimes, is just a bad habit really :wink: just have patience and try to catch him on the act..maybe somebody else will give you better advice. :wave: Good luck! :wink:

P.S. He might not be doing it on the bed..he might be draggin' it.

Yeah he could be dragging it. Also I have noticed that he has lost his chew stick. I'll give him another tonight. As for excercise, he does get plenty of rund of the garden in the evenings, but only for shorts bursts. I take him for shorts walks too but not that often at the moment. I do need to get into a better rountine of walking him.

for some dog's it's a lack of nutrients, some because they just like it, others do it because the great foods that have been put on the market are so packed with nutrients and good stuff the poop is too and it's almost like food to them, that doesn't mean they aren't getting enough vitamins or that Theda re hungry it just means it's like a treat to them. it's a gross thing and they do make some products out there that you can give to them that make it unappealing. do a search on carprophagia (sp?) you'll find lots of info and products.

Thanks Princess. That's really helpfull. It's so easy to get away from thinking that our little pups are just dogs after all and they do sometimes eat poo ! I've heard pineapple juice make it distastfull. I might try that.

At 5 months they usually start teething and for some reason, no one knows why, they start doing things that they wouldn't normally do.
If they have been doing well with potty training they may forget all they have learned and any other rules they learned also.
Usually after about a month, they will go back to their sweet lovable selves.

That's Very re-assuring Ms P. I certainly hope so. I'm sure everyone on this site know's what it's like - Every little thing you pick up on and Monkey being my first puppy I kind of put pressure on myself because I know with training it's better to prevent than to correct problems.

Yeah, Sadie used to eat her poop but only at night. I think it was because she was bored. After we got Ritz, she has pretty much stopped. We tried coprophagia products (Deter) and made sure that we cleaned it up after every poop but she did it at night so there was no solution. Hopefully Monkey will grow out of it because it's a yucky habit!! :wink:
