We picked up two new little ladies from a breeder who had to give up. They are both around a year and a half old, Delilah is 5lbs and Mouse is 4lbs, although I was surprised she weighs this much she is very tiny and fine boned. They are both really sweet dogs and were loved by their owner, but they have never been walked or trained at all. They have never worn collars or been in a car before. They don't answer to their names or respond to basic commands, they don't even understand 'sit'.
They also stink, and have horrid breath and dirty teeth from a poor diet, (they were fed cheap kibble, mostly Iams, plus boiled chicken and rice) and no muscle tone from not being exercised.
They had their check ups and vaccinations yesterday, and have taken to a raw diet like ducks to water. They love it! Even after just two days on raw their teeth are cleaner and they don't smell as much. I can't wait to see how they improve over the next few weeks.
Behaviour wise they are going to be hard work, they were both terrified of the vet, and Mouse, who is the dominant one, (always the littlest ones lol) wants to mark everything. They are also very bonded to each other, and scream if they are separated. So any tips on socialising adult dogs from scratch will be appreciated.
I also wondered what type of harness you guys would recommend for an adult dog that has never been walked before.

She is really fascinated by the guinea pigs

Congrats on the new additions! Its gonna be a tough tansition for them but I'm sure you can get them through it! I would take it nice and slow right now work on some basic commands with them together since they are so distraught when seperated. Once they get into your routine and learn to trust you socialization will be easier.

Oh Stella they are precious! Wow it's a big jump from two to four! Looks like the
pups all get along. Poor babies they don't look very well in those pics, I'm sure
with your awesome raw diet and lots of TLC they'll blossom in no time. Have you
treated for parasites yet? I'm sure you have, but I had to ask. Congrats on your
new additions Stella, I'm excited to watch them grow in your care. You better
share lots and lots of pictures!

Oh they are just beautiful! As is Harley...he has very similar colouring to Mylo with the white chest. I love Delilah's colouring. How unusual! Good luck with getting them up to scratch, I'm sure you'll do fine with all your knowledge and experience :)

Delilah is very pretty, and I adore her colouring. The sabling is blue, I've always loved blue Chis and sable Chis, so she is the best of both worlds. She reminds me of a teeny Husky. We tried to think of a more dignified name for Mouse, but it just stuck lol. I think she is going to be a little Diva once she settles in. She is definitely used to having her own way!
LS, yes, they have been wormed, and no sign of fleas. I will bath them tomorrow with Maleseb, as they both have crusty ear rims, you can see it more clearly on the pics of Mouse as she has hardly any fur on her ears.

A friend told me that there is no greater tribute to a beloved animal you have lost but to take in another to care for and love. You are paying DOUBLE tribute!

They are both precious! Mouse reminds me of my Ruby. Skinny but both vets say that this is how she will be no matter what. Your girl may be the same.

Congrats! What a blessing to all of you to have each other!

Thanks for all the lovely comments. They are doing well, still loving their raw food, no tummy upsets as yet, just a slightly softer stool after the stress of the vets and vaccinations. They are getting along well with Harley, he has been an angel about sharing his space and belongings.

They're both adorable! I love the photos of them running free. They are going to love learning how to be dogs.
They were worn out within two minutes, it is so sad. Harley is like the Duracell bunny, I have never managed to wear him out, but these girls were puffing and panting after a tiny bit of exertion.

Oh they look so happy! And can I just say how much I LOVE Guinea pigs!!]

Lol we love them too, this house is ruled by guinea pigs! We had 4 babies born last night, 2 of each, dear little things. Unfortunately I don't think Mouse's interest is friendly, I think she would happily eat them given the chance. She spends a lot of time watching the hamsters too.
