new baby + mean little chi sometimes

I have a 3 1/2 year old chi. He went to puppy kindergarden and was well socialized but lately he has met his quota of new friends and does not like most new people. He is also getting nasty when he doesn't get his own way. We hit his nose or spray with water and tell no when he does it but will bite viscously. He wants to go everywhere with us, and we still take him, but now I am always afraid someone will come up to him without my looking and he will bite them. My most important concern is I am having a baby in 3 mos. I know to let him smell something of baby's before I bring him home. But I don;t know if he will be ok with new baby. He usually puts up alot with babies, children, but by the end of the day he is exhausted and wants to be alone, or his tolerance gets short. ?? Help what to do? :(

Maybe go see a behavior specialist. They would be able to tell you what you could do.
I agree with pinkprincess.
Dogs need to chill out and have their own space just like us. Is it when he's tired you are having the most problems? They will also go thru "let me test you" stages too. But at his age that should be past.........are you sure there isnt some underlying medical condition that has him moody?

Just thoughts going thru my mind here, I hope you can work it out :(
when cosmo and paris are tired, they don't want the other near.....i think it's funny !!
i went to cosmo to a park last weekend ...and he really didn't like children ....i think he doesn't know what they are or something ( we have no children).......
i hope he's just going to puberty  he's getting real male antics ....but he's also such an unbelievable sweatheart. he's getting neutered on tuesday :?

kisses nat
I agree you probably need to consult an animal behaviorist. Your puppy could just be going through a "stage" in development or maybe he just gets cranky when tired. If you haven't been able to stop this behavior on your own, and have ruled out any medical or underlying problems, that is the logical next step.

One other caution, which you are probably already aware of. NEVER leave a baby or small child unattended with ANY pet.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
Sorry but you shouldnt be hitting his nose a dog should not be trained with pain or fear. The correction should be not bite! I would take him for obedience training. hitting of any kind is no way to train a dog
