My name is Kellie & I'm a new (kinda) owner to a gorgeous boy - His name is Ben and he is a long haired Chihuahua Male. He was born on March 17th, Currently five months old (as of today).
I'm excited to get to talking with other people who are/have experienced some of the same things as I have as well as make some new friends and share pictures
Here are just a few little pictures of him. I am completely obsessed. I was going through my cell phone the other day and I had 266 pictures of just him.
He's my first Chihuahua and I am in love - I have never owned a dog with a personality like his.:daisy:
May I ask if those are tear stains on his face? If so, what do you feed him? Diet can contribute to tear stains if you're not feeding a high quality food. There's other great tips out there to prevent tear stains as well.
I don't think they are tear stains, because his eyebrow is the same color. I think he's just uniquely marked. Not sure if I am seeing it correctly, but I think that since they match his eyebrow he just has some awesome coloring coloring going on.
Yeah - Those are tear stains. He had a little bit when he was a puppy and then it turned into full blown tear stains. Those pictures were taken over a month ago.. now his eyes dont water as much but he still has a little mark. He eats Royal Canin Chihuahua Food.
Ah, okay. I hate to sound so harsh, but RC is not a very good food at all. Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor displays unbiased food ratings with a detailed analysis of every food so you can understand why it is good or not. I would suggest a grain-free kibble such as Acana or Fromm, or if you can afford the best of the best premade foods, I would recommend freeze dried or frozen raw such as Ziwipeak or Stella And Chewys. However, fresh prepared raw is really the absolute best thing you can feed, but you need to understand what you're doing. There's a great forum here on raw feeding if you're interested in checking that out.
What a handsome man u have! Welcome to cp! I have 3 chi's, one of which is 6 months old and is a long coat too!! I think u will find this forum very helpful an fun!
Thank you - He's my world that's for sure. I'm a little late signing up for the forum lol he's 5 months old now. I managed to get him fully house trained with no pee pads, just going outside and also he has free roam when I am not home. He's doing really well that's for sure
Ben spent a day or so spitting out DNA, I wet it and tried it so many different ways.. the only thing that got him to eat any of it was the fact that my sister in law came over with her two dogs (a Pomchi and a Shih Tzu) and the minute they showed Interest in Ben's food he ate it all up.
My boyfriend keeps telling me about the Acana and I've heard lots of good things about it on here - Ben does like kibble food better Im noticing Lol, I don't want to have to bring other dogs over everytime I need him to eat and Acana is really accessible to me. I only bought a sample bag of DNA so its really no loss on me if he doesn't like it. I would like to start switching him however before I run out of his Royal Canin ( I don't want to have to buy another bag of it)
I would say to give Acana a shot then. It's just about as good as a kibble can get. Most dogs do very well on it. Make sure it's one of the grain-free flavors, however.
