Hello All!

About a week ago I adopted a 5 year old chi from the animal control center! I went in with the intention to volunteer. I saw this little black and white nugget shivering in a small crate in the corner and asked the lady at the desk about him. She then told me he was next in line to be euthanized! I almost cried instantly. After speaking to her about him she essentially said he had too many allergies and "issues" to be adopted and had been at the shelter for too long! (I had no idea they were a kill shelter). Obviously I took him home right then and there.

So thats the story of my Winston. I have been spoiling him like crazy! Currently I have him on Stella & Chewy's dehydrated raw and will be switching him to full raw in the upcoming weeks. I am looking at getting his meals from either Reel Raw or Raw Feeding Miami. Has anyone used either source? How did they do for your fur baby?

My second question topic is reverse sneezing! OMG how does anyone live with this? My poor baby has multiple episodes a day (anywhere from 3-10). He comes to work with me and everyone in the office gets up to make sure he's okay. Breaks my heart. I have been rubbing his throat clockwise and giving him a little bit of baby food to encourage swallowing when it starts. I also stay calm to help to not freak him out. But it kills me every time. Anyone know how to make the attacks less frequent? ANYTHING will help!

Thank you for reading!!!

See this thread about some info on raw feeding, my recipe is post #37, with a little info further down on why I feed what I feed.

Does she eat enough?

My chi had horrible reverse sneezing, the rescue actually gave me antibiotics for kennel cough when I got her. I don't know exactly what we're doing differently, but she's pretty much stopped, unless she gets SUPER excited.

Sorry, I don't know if the link works, I'm not great at this Internet stuff... I think you can view my profile to find the thread.

I found that making it myself was a LOT cheaper than the premade raw.

Tango has severe episodes of reverse sneezing, usually related to allergies. When I lived in a place with carpet, his reverse sneezing got really bad. The place before that was all hardwood and there were seldom any problems. And now we're living on carpet again, but it's a brand new house, and no reverse sneezing, which makes me wonder what was in that other house with the carpet. Or maybe it was mold? (It was a older home) Anyway, it seems that Tango's reverse sneezing is environmental.

I also spent a great deal of money attempting to get rid of that, and other allergy symptoms. Nothing helped unfortunately. Kinda like me and my seasonal allergies...I just have to ride them out.

Is the only symptom of allergies the sneezing behavior?

I'm inclined to think you are looking at collapsed trachea, bronchial irritation from kennel cough, or another issue as opposed to allergies if this is the only symptom. Either way, a vet should be able to tell you more.

My chi has dreadful allergies and the symptoms tend to be skin mostly, although his eyes also water.
