Im a new chi owner, to a female 7mths. She was recently diagnosed w/ CDA. For those who dont know thats color dilution alopecia. My poor babies hair is falling out where ever she is blue. She has some white and brown in her so those patches of hair are still growing. But she is a sweet and very energetic girl. Other then the CDA she has no other health problems. IM new to here obviosuly and im hoping to gather some insight on my little Chi, so i can be the best mom i can be to her. Does any one else have a chi w/ CDA? if so how are you dealing w/ it and wat works for your dog.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Would love to see some pics of your Chi.

I personally don't know a lot about CDA but have seen a blue Chi with mus less fur than others. She was still such a cute little dog just with a lot less fur (almost looked naked).

My Babies name Is Luna. We are doing good w/ the CDA, were getting her some vitamins and starting a new bathing routine, and doing some stress management w/ her. It will help slow the progression of the CDA. So were told. As 4bsingreece stated, luna is Choles sister.

IM still trying to work my way around this. Probably doing so w/ only three hours of sleep is not the best way to go about it. But hopefully I will get the hang of it. How do you all do those cool little signature things with their name and picture. I heard luna was over bearing in training class today Nichole, and then completely shut down. I swear she is so stubborn and hard headed, but she is my baby so why wouldn't she be. Well congrats on Chole graduating.

After you have 75 post ( I think) you can request Someone to make one! Caitlin (littlegemma) made mine. She did an awesome job!
Luna was a bit hyper but I though she did well. We are already signed up for adult class starting the 24th. I know that night class is difficult for you guys but it work out with me schedule. We will have get together more for the girls to play :)

There's no cure for CDA. Just keep her in tip top shape nutritionally and that will slow the progression. It's sort of like male pattern baldness in human males, there's no cure. But you can keep her skin in great shape and that will help. She will also benefit from some nice warm sweaters in the winter.

Nichole she is always hyper, thats her natural personality. She cracked me up today. The mail man came to put the mail in the box, and i was down stairs doing something and she was barking barking barking, i came up stairs and it was quite and i was like um where is luna. My husband was like she is passed out she ran over to him when she heard me come up the stairs and pretended to be asleep. I was dying. My daugher does the same thing. As far as her CDA goes. We began giving her fatty acid supplements, and im rubbing her gown nightly w/ a dog creme. Her coat is still rough but the areas where the hair has already fallen out are nice and smooth.

dex is blue tri and he has plenty of bald spots on his head, back, behind his legs....i would guess he has alopecia as mange was ruled out but he also has liver issues and lacking nutritio couple months ago....so im not sure. hes been on good food for a while now and plenty of vits but nothin has changed. his hair is still baldin the same areas...no coconut oil...halo oill....salmon oil...none of that helps one bit. so when winter comes he gets his sweaters and jackets so his bald spots arent bein left out in the cold and kept warm

well they say the balding can get worse or she could just loose the hair where she has already lost it. She has no hair on her legs or the top of her head, she has a straight light down the center of her back which is patchy bald. The lotion i put on her is to keep her skin moist, cause they said that once the hair is gone in those spots there is no where for the oil that she produces to stick to so her skin can get dried cracked and infected. I have been doing alot of research, im new to the chi world but not to the pet world. I have been rescuing animals since i was a child and driving my parents up the wall. My aunt and cousin are both Pitbull advocates and run seperate R/R centers (rescue and rehabilitation centers). I have a cat w/ downs, a cat w/ epilepsy, one w/ lazy eyes, and two that are two big in size for their own good. I lost a dog to cancer. So i like to be well versed in what i am doing. I came here cause it was recomended to me by a friend. Where do you all get your sweaters and jackets from and how does your chi react to them? Luna hates to even where her harnest cause it rubs on the areas where she is bald and she gets skin sores. I dont want to invest in something that will not go to use, lots of mouths to feed in my family.

ah~ so ur well aware then, thats good :) when i went to the vet they didnt even know what alopecia was....im glad upstate has education  looks like u are a big animal lover! sweaters and jackets are usually bought online at fun fun cute puppy stores, or i get made by people who makes them handmade either crochet or just sewing. i even have a partner in my business who makes dresses u can see a sample on the chihuahua crafts section on this forum :) petco often has sales on cute coats at times too! petmsart is way too pricey unless its a big big sale  if u have fb let me know, i can introduce u to the world of fb land where i know where to get handmade items quality :)

Buy her some super cute little sweaters and jumpers - it's a cold world w/o fur! ;) Your little one will be just fine. The good thing is just like you said - it is not an indication of OTHER health problems and she can live a long happy healthy life.

I just went to the Dollar Store to pick up some school supplies for my daughter and found little cotton tee shirts for my new half bald with mange chi. You'd be surprised where to find cute, inexpensive clothes. Our local Walmart has sweaters, too.
For washing, though, since your baby may have sensetive skin use the unscented baby laundry soap so she doesn't end up with an allergy issue as well. That's what I'm doing for Bacchus since he has so many issues right now. We're hoping to get his mange under control so that he'll have some hair before winter, but I'm going shopping for cute sweaters, just in case. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :)

Best wishes for a healthy life for your little one!

Ninja has CDA he's 5 years old he's bald from the neck down but his back is full of nice Normal amount of fur! I use the fur puppia harness so it's soft on his skin the step in works best for him he does not like wearing clothing at all think it feels weird on his skin he just spins in circles and is miserable lol if it's super cold out (were in Canada) I put a winter jacket on him before he goes out and take it off right when he comes back in lol he also had to wear socks on his feet bc they're super sensitive he picks them uP and screams without the socks his ears are paper thin too sometimes I tie a sock on his head to keep his ears warm!

He eats a combo of ziwipeak and acana he also gets nupro daily now we've never had a problem with the bald part of the skin being dry.

Hope Luna's isn't too bad! I love ninjas skin it's soooo soft I'm always kissing it lol
