Hi--I just joined the forum today. I put a few posts
and pictures in a section called Chis and Cats.
I will go ahead and repeat myself and tell my story
again here.

My husband and I were at the gas station filling up the
car with gas. There was a tiny little dog running around
the parking lot, and the short time we were there she
almost got run over twice. She came right over to me
when I called her, and she was shaking violently. It
was early October and cold out. We left our name and
number with the guy working at the gas station, in case
she got out of someone's car accidentally. No one ever
called. We checked the lost/found ads. We called the
animal control person in our town--no one had reported
her missing. So we kept her. She's a little 3 pound
1/2 ounce long haired tan with black markings chihuahua.
The next day I took her to the vet because she had
a large knot on the side of her face, which turned out
to be a bad gum infection. She was also malnourished,
the poor baby. Antiobiotics took care of the infection very quickly. We wondered how she would fit in with
our 15 year old 16 pound cat. They get along so great.
It is so cute--when they are in the same room......
THEY MUST TOUCH! lol They lay rear to rear or side by
side all the, it's so cute. We don't have kids, so they
are sort of our babies. The dog never barks--I don't know
why. Sometimes I kind of wish she WOULD.
She doesn't like dog food, and I know I probably spoil her--
she likes meat--whatever we have leftover from meals.
She loves chicken, pork chops, roast beef, etc. I would
LOVE to get her to eat dog food, but since she has a history
of being malnourished, I have a tendency to just let her
have what she wants, as much of it as she will eat.

OK, here they are--Brownie and Fred. Two peas in a pod.

WOW--

Thanks everybody for the nice posts and the welcomes!

Hey Auggie's Mom......You went from living in KCMO to
the Virgin Islands??? Did you experience a lot of
culture shock? It sounds wonderful.

Hi Kemo's Mamma!

You're so sweet. The vet said she was about six years
old. He dug around in her mouth to determine this,
so I guess he was counting her teeth. I don't know.

Welcome to the forum, Sheila! I also have a very large, sweet natured cat. She weighs about 14 pounds, and wouldn't hurt a flea---not that she has any, of course!

Just a thought, since Brownie doesn't eat dog food. Does she like to chew Greenies? It would help keep her teeth clean and prevent gum infections. Dry dog food does this to some degree, but if she doesn't eat it, I would just be sure that she has some tooth-healthy chews and/or some hard dog biscuits. (You probably already do this, but I still thought I'd mention it). :)

Tucker's mom is right. Since she isn't on hard dog food she will need a little extra care with her teeth.

I am so happy this precious baby didn't get run over. I don't think I could have taken it if I saw her get run over! How sweet of you to take her in!

My chi mix Cody is a rescue and he LOVED my cat (who is now deceased because of my father's pitbull...)My cat was a 14 ls boy with a real presence just like yours and the two always cuddled just like that in the big white chair. I think Cody thinks hes a cat! Isn't it just adorable? Inter species friendships are the best. My dogs and ferrets love playing with each other.

Brownie is just a cutie. I couldn't of resisted her either! She is such a tiny baby! How lucky for you two to have found each other!

 Big welcome from me and Lily! Happy to have you here but even happier that your story has such a great ending. Thank you for having such a kind heart and doing right by Brownie.

Sounds like our two girls have the same kind of dental problems and Lily's already had two dental surgeries in two years. She's had a total 4 teeth extracted and I won't be surprised if they have to take another one this year. Lily eats a small amount of hard food 5 days a week - she won't touch it unless there are other dogs around so I have her eat breakfast at daycare. I also have the daycare brush her teeth every week because it takes 2 people. Other than that, I keep human food to a minimum and feed her canned Prescription Canine I/D which I buy from her vet. It's low fat because Lily has trouble digesting fatty foods. She was always very fussy about dog food but thank God she loved this one right from the start.

Good luck with your Brownie. She's a beautiful girl and I'm sure she will bring you immeasurable joy for years to come.

THANKS FOR ALL THE RESPONSES!

I didn't expect to get so many!

Yes, the vet said the same thing--that since she didn't
eat hard dog food I needed to supplement her diet
with vegetables. He said to try to sneak in green beans
here and there--so far she will eat those, especially if
they have been cooked in with the meat. Like in a stew--
she also likes carrots. Wonder if the vegetables have
to be CRUNCHY.....dang, I'll bet they do.

Doggie day care? Our little dinky town doesn't even
have a child day care! LOL

I want to look around this forum and check out all your
darling little dogs too--my time the last couple of days
has been limited.

I like how so many of you have those cool avatar thingys
with the different "flashing" dog pictures. Sorry, but I
can't think of a better way to say that.
